Exhibition: Using VoiceThread to Narrate Presentations

Follow these steps to create a simple PowerPoint presentation and then use your voice to narrate the presentation.

1. Research:
a. Continue to look for online articles (web articles, news articles, videos, etc) about your topic. b. Flickr Groups is an excellent tool for people to share their knowledge, ideas, and images for certain topics and issues. i. Go to http://www.flickr.com/groups/

ii. Search for a local group that matches your issue. For example, if your issue is Land Pollution, enter key words such as, Bangalore, Land Pollution, littering, etc. iii. If you cannot find a local group that relates to your issue, look for an international group. iv. You can use our classs log-in and password if you would like to add resources to the group. v. Find at least 3 images that relate to your issue. vi. Save them on your computer for later use. c. Make sure you post your links to your groups Only2Clicks tab (www.only2clicks.com/).

d. Continue to take notes about Problems, Causes, Action taken, and possible Action your group would take.

2. Synthesize your research:

a. If you are working with a partner, decide who is responsible for synthesizing and presenting each part. b. Write an essay describing your research findings, using these ideas as pointers: i. Problems: What are the big problems associated with your issue? What do they look like locally? Globally? Include data in your explanation. ii. Causes: Why are these problems happening? Trace your problems back to their root causes. Discuss the root causes. iii. Action Taken: What action was taken about this issue? Which organizations/individuals were responsible for the action? What did they do? How? What change did they bring? iv. Possible Group Action: What would your group like to do as your Action component? List a few ideas and explain them with some detail.

3. Create a PowerPoint Presentation:

a. Create the following slides: i. Title ii. Content of presentation iii. Problems with (your issue) iv. Causes for problems with (your issue) v. Examples of Action vi. Possible Group Action b. You can have more than 6 slides. If your essay includes a lot of detail for a certain part, then try to break it down to more slides. For example, if you discuss different organizations that took action about your issue, create one slide for each organizations action. c. Include images on each slide. You should have at least 3 images from the Flickr group/s you found (http://www.flickr.com/groups/). d. There should be no text on your slides, aside from the main slide titles and topics you discuss. For example, for your Problems slide, you can have a title (Problems) and a list of the problems you discuss. Do not include any details!

4. Narrate it on VoiceThread (taking turns)

a. You now have an essay, which includes the content of your presentation. b. You also have a PowerPoint Presentation, which includes the topics you will be discussing. c. You will now upload your presentation to VoiceThread, and for each slide you will be reading what you wrote in your essay. d. To do that, go to: http://ed.voicethread.com/

e. We created a free account for our class. See your teacher for log-in information. f. Click on Browse and watch a few tutorials or VoiceThread examples to get familiar with this program.

g. Click on Create h. Click on Upload My Computer. Find your PowerPoint file and upload it. Wait until it finished uploading.

Add a title for your VoiceThread. Follow the format of Exhibition 2012 -2013- [your groups issue] j. Now you will add your narration. Each member of your group has been responsible for certain parts of the presentation, and has written an essay for that part. So each member will record his/her voice for their part of the presentation. k. To do that, click on Comment. i.

Each member will add comments for his/her slide by clicking Comment. When you are ready, click Record. You will see OK. Start talking. That means you are ready to narrate. m. When you are done, click on Stop Recording. l.

n. Listen to your voice. If you are happy with it, click Save and move on to a different slide (you dont need to follow a chronological order).

And Youre Done!

(The next step would be to add comments to your peers VoiceThreads!)
