PASSIVE VOICE

(Subj + be + past participle/verb III)


In the passive, the object of an active

verb becomes the subject of the passive verb. - He eats a banana every day (Active) A banana is eaten by him (Passive) Only transitive verbs (verbs followed by an object) are used in the passive.

PASSIVE VOICES
Example :

Simple Present Mary helps John. (A) John is helped by Marry. (P)
Present Progressive Mary is helping John. (A) John is being helped by Mary. (P) Present Perfect Mary has helped John. (A) John has been helped by Mary. (P)

PASSIVE VOICES
Simple Past Mary helped John. (A) John was helped by Mary. (P) Past Progressive Mary was helping John. (A) John was being helped by Mary. (P) Past Perfect Mary had helped John. (A) John had been helped by Mary. (P)

PASSIVE VOICES
Simple Future Mary will help John. (A) John will be helped by Mary. (P) Be going to Mary is going to help John. (A) John is going to be helped by Mary. (P) Future Perfect Mary will have helped John. (A) John will have been helped by Mary. (P)
