Las luces de los vehculos se desalinean por las vibraciones del mismo, ya sea por manejo normal, golpes por huecos en carretera o cualquier otra vibracin fuerte o golpe. Hay dos formas de determinar que las luces estn desalineadas, la primera es cuando el conductor percibe que el alcance de las luces no es el adecuado, que no alumbran el camino como deberan hacerlo. La otra es cuando los conductores que vienen en sentido contrario hacen seas indicndonos que los estamos "encandilando". Las luces de alinean utilizando una computadora que mide los ngulos de las luces de acuerdo a la carrocera del vehculo. Y se ajusta cada luz individualmente, cada una tiene dos tornillo, una para los costados y otra para la altura, se gira el tornillo en la direccin necesaria.

Sin embargo, existen formas manuales de hacer este ajuste: 1. Controlar las presiones de los neumaticos. Asegurarse que el automvil esta en una superficie pareja y nivelada y que las gomas estn infladas correctamente. Sobrecarga en la parte de atrs del vehculo puede alterar, el alineamiento, asegurarse que el control esta hecho de acuerdo a las recomendaciones de carga del fabricante. 2. Posicionar el vehculo Si se usa una carta de direccionamiento, note las instrucciones de preparacin y de prueba y posicione el vehculo y la carta en las posiciones correctas relativas uno de otro. Si se usa una pared para alinear las luces, posicionar el automvil mirando hacia la pared entre unos 5 a 7 metros.

3. Preparar las marcas en la pared M edir la altura de las luces frontales en el vehculo y la distancia entre ellas. M arcar lneas de referencia en la pared o pantalla directamente en frente del vehculo. La lnea horizontal debe ser marcada exactamente a 2 pulgadas o 5 centmetros debajo de la lnea central y la lnea vertical debe estar en el centro de la unidad de la lmpara.

H: es la distancia entre el suelo y el centro del faro D: es la distancia entre centros de los faros 0,1xH: es el resultado de multiplicar 0,1 por la distancia H. 4. Controlar el nivel de operacin de la luz baja Prender las luces frontales bajas. El centro de los haces de luz de iluminacin debera estar en los cuadrantes derechos inferiores de la carta o de las marcas en la pared. 5. Controlar el nivel de operacin de la luz alta La luz alta debera estar centrada, cayendo en las intersecciones de las marcas horizontal y vertical. 6. Ajustar la alineacin de las luces frontales Si es necesario, ubique los tornillos de ajuste de las luces frontales y grelos as las luces apuntan a los lugares correctos.

Remove the headlamp bezel and retaining ring attaching screws. Remove the bezel and retaining ring. 2. Pull the headlight out, disconnect the wire harness and remove the headlight from the vehicle. 3. Install the headlight in the reverse order of removal. Grand Cherokee and Grand Wagoneer Models 1. Open the hood, reach into the engine compartment and locate the lock ring supporting the bulb assembly. 2. Rotate the lock ring 1/8 turn counterclockwise and pull the bulb straight out from the housing. To install: 3. Install a new bulb and position the bulb assembly in the lamp housing. 4. Rotate the lock ring 1/8 turn clockwise to secure.

HEADLIGHT AIMING See Figures 8, 9 and 10

Fig. 8: Location of the aiming screws on most vehicles with sealed beam headlights The headlights must be properly aimed to provide the best, safest road illumination. The lights should be checked for proper aim, and adjusted if necessary, after installing a new sealed beam unit or if the front end sheet metal has been replaced. Certain state and local authorities have requirements for headlight aiming and you should check these before adjusting. The truck's fuel tank should be about half full when adjusting the headlights. Tires should be properly inflated, and if a heavy load is carried in the pick-up bed, it should remain there.

Horizontal and vertical aiming of each sealed beam unit is provided by two adjusting screws, which move the mounting ring in the body against the tension of the coil spring. There is no adjustment for focus; this is done during headlight manufacturing.

Fig. 10: High-beam headlight pattern alignment 1. If aiming is to be performed outdoors, it is advisable to wait until dusk in order to properly see the headlight beams on the wall. If done in a garage, darken the area around the wall as much as possible by closing shades or hanging cloth over the windows. 2. Turn the headlights ON and mark the wall at the center of each light's low beam, then switch on the brights and mark the center of each light's high beam. A short length of masking tape which is visible from the front of the vehicle may be used. Although marking all four positions is advisable, marking one position from each light should be sufficient.
