Appendix H SIGNIFICANT/RELEVANT ACCOMPLISHMENTS & SPECIAL RELEVANT TRAINING All teaching staff will complete the Significant/Relevant Accomplishments

and Special Relevant Training as part of their teacher portfolio. It shall measure an employees contributions to the overall performance of the school by making clear, significant, relevant contributions above the normal expectations for staff in the employees peer group and demonstration of a record of exceptional performance. In addition, staff will identify relevant training completed, not required by the district or the Michigan Department of Education. With respect to any such training, staff should also explain how staff integrated the training into instruction in a meaningful way. Accomplishment:__Member of the Harbor Lights FAME Team______________ Date:__started Fall 2012__________ Description:___As members of the Harbor Lights Fame Team, we are getting trained in the importance of, the theory behind, and path to improving the level of formative assessment we implement in our daily lessons. This training is with the intention that we will, in turn, help other Harbor Lights teachers learn the same. How is this accomplishment relevant/applicable? In our classrooms comprised of increasingly more diverse learners, we need to find ways to help students activate prior knowledge, set personal goals, assess peers and self-assess. We need to learn ways to adjust our instruction when students do not have a grasp of a learning target and we need to find ways to challenge students who do. How is this accomplishment above the normal expectations for staff in your peer group? How does is demonstrate a record of exceptional performance?

We are required to meet as a team, at least monthly. Since our team is part of a research study at Michigan State University, our meetings are often videotaped. In order to achieve a deeper understanding of the theories behind FAME, we are participating in a book study of three different texts on the topic. We need to be willing to continually try new strategies and tools and then, share our findings with the other team members. Ultimately, we will be expected to train other teachers in methods to improve their understanding and use of formative assessment.
If you completed training not required by the district or MDE, how did you integrate that training into your instructional practice in a meaningful way?

Most effective teachers already use formative assessment in their classroom all of the time. However, with this training, I am learning how to assess my students more fully, how to help them reflect on their own learning and eventually, how to use this information to adjust my instruction more fluidly and quickly. Teachers that have a very strong mastery of this theory and practice are able to engage many more students and reach a more learners in a heterogeneous classroom.

*Teachers may submit as many significant/relevant accomplishments as they deem appropriate.
