Straightening and Despatch :

At BSPs Merchant Mill and Rail & Structural Mill every piece of each section
is straightened through a straightening machine. Heavy structurals from
R&S Mill are despatched piece wise while light structurals from Merchant
Mill are clubbed in bundles of 8-12 tonnes in fixed length.
Angles from Merchant Mill for TLT manufacturers can be nested and
packetted, after piece by piece inspection. Customers are requested to
specify this, if required.
At DSPs Section Mill 100% products are straightened.

Applications

Applications : Leak proof retaining wall in construction of dams, bridge

foundation, construction in ports.
Advantages : Sharp edged lock may be considered as being tight. Due to
self-locking facilities these can be erected very easily and quickly without
any extra fixing details, Z-Piling retaining wall can resist higher amount of
transverese thrust in comparison to wall of other equivalent structural
sections.
Typical Length : 11 meters and above.

Applications : To support underground galleries in collieries and for

constructions of tunnels in hydroelectric projects etc.
Advantages : Can resist higher amount of axial compresive load in
comparison to equivalent ISMB joist sections.Due to its configuration, it
can be bent to arch shape without any corrugation. Sliding joint facility
helps to release exces overburden load.
Typical Length : 11.5 meters and above. Length below 11.5 m can also
be supplied.

High Temperature Strength

SAIL TMT-HCR-A, SAIL TMT-HCR-M, SAIL TMT-HCR-P reinforcement bars exhibit higher
thermal resistance even at temperatures up to 600C. The retention of significant strength
or, in other words, resistance to softening, is attributed to design of steel chemistry, presence
of tempered martensite layer on the rebar surface and absence of any cold worked structural
zone. Thus the thermally hardened SAIL TMT-HCR-A, SAIL TMT-HCR-M, SAIL TMTHCR-P rebars are ideal for use in places prone to fire hazards.

Packaging : CR Coils
Coils are first packed with paper and high-density polythene and then secured
with steel strapping. A coil is strapped with three eye and two circumferential
straps. For identification, one sticker and one metallic tag with a sticker are
provided. These are then loaded into wagons with the eye of the coil in
horizontal position. Coils are then unitised by straping.
Packaging : CR Sheets
These are packed in packets of 3 - 10 tonnes each and covered with high density
polythene and paper. Thereafter, these are bound with steel straps. They also
have stickers inside the packets and metal tags attached to the strips.

CRNO Coils & Sheets

To meet the demands of the electrical industry, Rourkela Steel Plant offers
Cold Rolled Non Oriented (CRNO) fully processed steel used in the manufacture of magnetic cores and components.
Standard Width : The standard width of CRNO coils or sheets are 900, 950
and 1000 mm. Slit coils can be supplied in minimum width of 100 mm and
then in multiples of 10 mm. Other sizes are negotiable.
Standard Length : The standard length of CRNO sheets are
2000 and 2500 mm.

CRNO steels from RSP are graded on the basis of Epstein Core Loss Test
at magnetic induction of 1.5 Tesla. The maximum core loss limit is based
upon the general procedure established by the American Society for Testing
and Materials (ASTM A 34). For this purpose RSP has set up a fully equipped
and modern testing laboratory consisting of among other equipment, a
sophisticated Digital Core Loss Testing Unit. Other test instruments include
Franklin Surface Insulation Resistance Tester, Hay Bridge, DC Hysteresis
Loop Tracer etc.
Magnetic properties and lamination factor of SAIL CRNO coils/sheets are
in conformity ASTM A 677 specifications.

The values are measured in accordance with ASTM A34/JIS C 2550 methods
using as sheared specimens consisting of half of the strip parallel and half
sheared transverse to the rolling directions.
Magnetic Ageing : The Non-Oriented steels will have less than 5% increase
in core loss upon a standard ageing treatment (at 2250C for 24 hours). Grading
is done based on watt loss value obtained after ageing.
Packing : The material is first wrapped in stretch film over card board
protectors in the eye and OD edges followed by an additional layer of airbubble polythene type covering. It is then packed in galvanised sheet metal
envelope. Metallic collars are provided in the eye of the coil and on the OD
to prevent handling damages. The envelope with strapped with 4 eye and 3
to 4 circumferential straps. Additional support is provided when warranted.
No metallic packing is given on slit coil.
