Stage 3 Talking and Listening Program


Term 1, 2013

Aim of the program: The aim of this terms program is for students to express their ideas clearly and succinctly to their audience when communicating orally. This will occur specifically through partner discussions which occur during reading lessons, with a focus on summarising ideas and concepts orally which have been presented in the texts they read. They will also listen attentively to gather specific ideas and information by watching Behind the News and answering questions related to each weeks program. of questions from the program. All students listen attentively to the reports and record answers to questions. At the conclusion of the program, time will be allocated for each group to agree on their responses. Finally, a class feedback session will be held during which the questions will be answered and issues discussed. Students will be encouraged to share their opinions about topics and give supporting reasons for their thoughts. Support will be given for students to express their ideas in a concise and convincing manner.
Assessment: Students will be assessed informally on their: participation in class discussions/contributions to partner conversations in reading ability to present their ideas in a clear and sequential manner attention during oral presentations and ability to respond to issues and concepts raised
