Centre Training programme/Workshop on Bio-Diversity Conservation for Pondicherry Teacher Trainees (DIETLawspet) at Auroville Botanical Garden on 19.03.2013
The C.P.R.Environment Education Centre, Chennai has Organised a one day workshop on Bio-Diversity Conservation at Botanical Garden, Auroville on 19.03.2013. Nearly 72 studying in DIET, Lawspet, Puducherry attended the teacher trainees of I Year D.Ted

workshop along with 4 lecturers of DIET. The Workshop was inaugurated by P.Nagendiran Rtd. Sr.Lecturer cum Teacher Educator, State Training Centre, Directorate of School Education , Puducherry.

The trainees were devided into two groups, one group being taken to the garden and exposed to various medicinal plants by Mr.Satyamurthy and Tmt Kamatchi resource persons from Aurovill Botanical Garden and the other group being explained to conservation of Bio Diversity through Power point presentation by Mr.V.Ramalingam, Env.Educator. After Tea Break the two groups were exchanged for the same activities.

In the afternoon the two groups were taken to field visit such as Solar power plant, seed Bank , Nursery plant etc. in side the Botanical Garden and the participants were explained the different strategies used in thease places .

The participants under stood that the electrical power to the whole botanical garden was from the solar power plant and there was no electrical power supply in this place. Also the participants were given exposure to seed preservation in the seed bank and seeds collection in their own garden protecting the seeds from other sources.

After the field visit the participants enjoyed by environmental games in the maze garden.

It is interesting to note that the special lunch prepared using organic vegitables was served to the participants and they enjoyed much. More over the lemon grass tea and sundal during tea time were offered to them. Lastly the certificates and Posters on flora and fauna of Aurovill area were distributed to the participants with vote of thanks by one of the participants.
