Introduction Sun Zis Art of War is the most well known work ever created in the ancient Chinas

literature on military operations and strategies. It is also an honoured and famous Chinese military classic outside of China. As the oldest military treatise in the world, it is acknowledged unanimously as one of the greatest cultural legacies of Chinese nation and is strongly influential in the world today. Although its exact origin and authorship have been questioned, military historians are unanimous that the book was probably written in 400-320 B.C., about 100 years after the birth of two wellknown Chinese philosophers, namely Confucius and Lao Tzu. The book is over 2,400 years old today. It is truly fascinating that the book is still able to continue to invoke the interests and curiosity of modern scholars and writers. Sun Zis Art of War is capable of influencing the military thought and political thinking and top military schools from all over the world would want to have copies of the book in their library. Sun Zis Art of War is somehow a short book with only about 6,200 words written in classical Chinese. The book contains 13 chapters, with each chapter barely a page long. The thirteen chapters are Detailed Assessment and Planning (), Waging War (), Strategic Attack (), Disposition of the Army (),Forces ( ). Weakness and Strength (), Military Maneuvers (), Variations and Adaptability (), Movement and Deployment of Troops (), Terrain ( ), The Nine Battle Ground(), Attacking with Fire(), Intelligence and Espionage() respectively. The longest chapter is Chapter 11 on the Nine Battlegrounds and has less than 1,100 words and the shortest chapter is Chapter 8 on Variations and Adaptability has less than 250 words. These thirteen military essays form a systematic military work with each chapter discussing one problem. However, to be able to fully capture the meaning and implication of Sun Zis thought has been proved to be a problem since the original work was written in classical Chinese. This is mainly caused by the complexity of Chinese language, writing and culture. One has to be familiar with circumstances prevailing at that time to understand the exact meaning of the work. Sun ZIs Art of War is a book of military philosophy instead of military science. He preferred the holistic approach in dealing with military conflicts. Sun Zi was never

an advocate of war, he admitted the high costs of war that include not only financial burdens of the state, but also heavy taxes on people, depletion of national resources and sufferings of people. War was to be used as last resort for the conflict among the states. The Art of War actually discusses how to win, which is not limited to military operations. Its significance is projected to many fields nowadays such as commercial affairs, management, athletic competitions, etc. Everyone who reads it carefully may acquire the key to victory. The organization selected by our group is the Intel Corporation. Intel Corporation is an American multinational semiconductor chip maker corporation headquartered in Santa Clara, California, United States. It is the worlds largest semiconductor chip maker. Intel began in 1968 and it was founded by Gordon E. Moore, a physicist and also a chemist. His partner for this corporation was Robert Noyce, a fellow physicist and co-creator of integrated circuitry, after they both left Fairchild Semiconductor. In 1980s, Intel was run by a chemical engineer named Andy Grove, the third member of the original Intel family. Andy Grove today is considered to be one of the companys essential business and strategic leaders. In the 1990s, Intel had become one of largest and so far the most successful businesses in the entire world. In the beginning Intel was set apart by its ability primarily to create memory chips and Static RAM (SRAM). The Pentium Pro processor made by Intel Corporation had 5.5 million transistors, hence the chip is made much more affordable that it could be imbedded in common household appliances. After this success, the Intel Corporation had since decided to embrace this and pursue its production. Intel Corporation has been making steady progress and contributing great discoveries related to the computing and micro computing world to this day.

Content First mover advantage The idea of first-mover advantage is similar to the old adage, "the early bird gets the worm." Just like Sun Zi said Those who arrive first in battleground will have sufficient time to rest and prepare against the enemy. In business, being the first company to sell a new product may provide long-lasting benefits or competitive advantages. As the first company to enter the market, they might have benefits in market dominance and higher-than-average profitability over time. Besides, the first mover should take the advantage to monopoly the market, be the market leader. The first company has the good chance to consolidate the market and enlarge their market share, the second company who arrive late might need some time to catch up their steps. First movers are often followed by competitors that try to capitalize on the original company's success. By the time, however, the first mover has usually accumulated enough market share, expertise and customer loyalty to remain on top. AirAsia is an example taking the first mover advantage. AirAsia is the first low cost airline in Malaysia and now AirAsia is largest low-fare, no-frills airline and a pioneer of low-cost travel in Asia. Even though nowadays there are other competing low cost airlines in Malaysia like Firefly, but the foundation and reputation of AirAsia built earlier as the first mover still undefeatable, the first name that come to Malaysians mind when talk about low cost airline is always AirAsia. Communication and Signals in Combat During warfare, cymbals, drums, flags and banners are used as a communication tool to replace talking or waving which would attract enemies attention. Besides of this, the purpose is to draw the attention of the troops and focus them for combat under the direction of the commander, to denote the different formations and divisions of the army and to boost armys morale and frighten away the enemy. These mean that to accomplish a task well have to choose the right communication tool match different situation. To fight in a battle, it is important to understand the enemies language and to understand their strategy to win. For example, Toyota treats its customers as their valued asset. It listens to its customers to understand their problems and needs and deal with them from different directions. One of the evidence is that Toyotas cars are widely popular and well-accepted by

people around the world. This is because it has various designs of vehicles that suit different kind of consumers in different countries. As compared to other automotive manufacturers such as General Motor and Ford, Toyota provides better customer experience. Its customers are satisfied with its products and services. Importance of Leadership Leadership is defined as the process of social influence in which one person can enlist the aid and support of others in the accomplishment of a common task. According to Sun Zi, leader is like a guardian to the nation during warfare. To build up a strong and mighty community, the guardian must be detailed and thoughtful. And Sun Zi mentioned that the general must master command and the nation must supports general. There are also 5 leadership skills to be practice in order to predict victory of the war. They are the sense of timing, the ability to judge, motivate and unite army, proactive and the ability to exercise full command. In chapter 3, it also mentions that, a good leader have the ability to motivate the employees to achieve goals; a weak leader may ruin their work. Therefore it brings out a message, that is to be an influencing leader and can be able to control the whole community, before heading to success. As an example, the CEO of the Starbucks organization, Howard Schultz has a strong sense of leadership who enables Starbucks organization to shine brightly in each and every corner of this world. When Starbucks organization faced economic crisis due to over expansion in year 2007, Howard Schultz decided to close 7,100 stores in US for three and a half hours to restrain its baristas on how to make the perfect espresso. This decision made Starbucks lost $6 million that day. However, with this right decision, Starbucks turned over a new leaf, competed with MCD corporation which introduced cheaper and high quality caffeinated drink successfully. Be flexible like water No one victory is gained in the same manner as another. The tactics change in an infinite variety of ways to suit changes in the circumstances. Water constantly adapts. It constantly changes. You put a wall in front of it, it will go around it or eventually through it. You heat it, it turns to steam. You freeze it, it turns solid. Water is energetic. That is the power of flexibility. Like water, the flexible are able to overcome the adamant and the yielding are able to overcome the forceful. Just like in

Sun Zi Art of War, in the conduct of war, there is no fixed situation and condition, just like water has no constant shape and configuration. As a leader, he needs to change its strategies due to the changing conditions and situations of the competitor. Of the five elements, none is ever predominant; of the four seasons, none lasts forever; of the days, some are longer and others shorter; and of the moon, it sometimes waxes and sometimes wanes. Therefore, there are no constant tactics in business. A leader should be change with uncertainty and create opportunity to strike competitors weaknesses, thereby succeeds in winning may be said to be divine. For example, AirAsia is very flexible in order to attract customer, instead of sticking into one plan. Throughout the years, AirAsia non-stop offering attractive prices of airfare in order to get more customer. Recently, AirAsia offered Celebrating Our 100th Awesome Plane, where the fee from Penang to Kuala Lumpur worths only RM30.

Discussion: Sun Zis art of war and business chapter 4, disposition of war states that, As a leader or top management, must have vision and mission and can predict the future market trend. Future development and improvement is one of the important elements to let organization grow. Organization can control the market but implementation period must be in right timing. An organization may just follow the market trend; it may make profit also but for sure not much. The worst thing for this is that some organization cant analyze the market trend and still maintain their old business style and products. This theory is truly and successfully applies by Intel, PCs architectures platform leader nowadays to its own business and idea of their product. Intel, a major source of influence in the evolution of PC architecture nowadays, the story behind the transition of Intel subsequently for its rise as the platform leader is truly inspiring the generation these days. The story of Intel that previously a simple component maker, supplying microprocessors for computer architectures is the only one of its kind as there is no other company which has this idea and recources to issues which would not only improve their own product performance and yet make everyone participating in its industry while preserving its leadership position. However, of course the company had to work hard to reach todays position. The main problem is that in its initial years in growing the microprocessor business because the computer end-users bought computer not microprocessors which Intel did not make the computer. Another problem is that Intel have to ensure the demand for its microprocessors according with the Moores law. Moores law explained that if there were no demand for more computing power, at the same time the demand of the microprocessor from Intel will be low as well. As all the other computer manufacturers and software producers will not make something out that would take advantage of the lastest Intel technology. Intel realised the problem is that the demand of its microprocessors business is very dependent to the PCs manufacturers and the software producers. To solve this problem, Intel devised a new strategy, to build a platform which was everything that surround the microprocessor. The company believe in keeping pace and improving and scaling, so that the microprocessor can deliver its potential.

Second, Intel company also fully make use the sun zi arts world in chapter 1 to maintain its own platform position and leadership, Intel itself had to face many obstacle, externally as well as internally on its way to do so. Externally tensions which kept on arising between the platform leader and all the outside firms. The unique idea and stategy of Intel transition to a platform leader on that time encouraged innovation outside the company and resulting all the outside firm compete the leadership with Intel. For internal tensions which occur between the groups inside the platform leader. Intel realised that if all these conflict of interest were ignored or allowed all these to grow, many problem will rise no matter within the platform leader or outside the platform leader. In order to overcome all these conflict, Intel proposed few strategy or solution to do so. First of all for external conflict, the company indentified factors that causes the triggering of external conflict of interest which follow the theory in chapter1 which said by Sun Zi: The conduct of war is a matter of vital importance to the nation. It determines the survival or death of the country. It is a matter of life and death (of the people and their ruler). It must be studied and examined thoroughly. Thus, analyze and study the five factors carefully. Based on These five factors are moral influence, the weather, terrain, generalship, and doctrine and law. After that the Intel classified them into three categories. The weather is the first one they considering the weather is not as ancient time about the raining or sunny day, in the business application the weather define as the timing, chance or opportunity. Intel was doing the comparism is it can the take large investment risks in uncertain markets and got very short time to get their return on investment. Second Doctrine and law refer to organization and control, management systems and procedures, and the command and control structure for the deployment of resources, is when the platform leader failed to follow on some particular commitments it had made. Last one will be when the platform leader decided to compete with its complementors. As the sun zi said those who carry out planning in the temple prior to the outbreak of war will win if the plans are thorough and detailed. Those who carry out planning in the temple prior to the outbreak of war will not win if the plans are neither thorough nor detailed. With thorough and detailed planning, one can win. With less thorough or detailed planning, one cannot win. How much more certain is defeat

when one does not plan at all! By observing how planning is done, I can predict victory and defeat. After all these factors are being indentified, Intel again formulating strategy that will overcome the conflict itself including: establish trustworthy relationships with complementors, persuading the external firms to accept the new standard proposed by Intel that would support the lastest Intel microprocessor line and also the Pc platform. By doing so, this few strategy made Intel finally a real platform leader in terms of effectively managing conflicts with all the external firms. To overcome and manage both the internal and external conflicts in an effective way, Intel demonstrated that companies which balanced multiple roles, for example an industry enabler and a neutral broker could become platform leaders in their respective industries.

Lastly, the intel was using the chapter 8 to let the intel become gaint processor. Sun zi is said that the general who knows how to vary and adapt to changing situations so as to gain advantages is one who is skilful in applying the art of war. Barrett's paid $1.6 billion to buy DSP Communications Inc. (DSPC), a leading maker of digital wireless phone technology. Then, in January, Intel rolled out an ambitious plan to sell branded information appliances--screen phones, e-mail stations, TV settop boxes--through phone companies and Internet service providers. And in February, the company barged into yet another new business, announcing a family of specialpurpose network servers that manage Web traffic. The boxes will go head-to-head against gear from networking powerhouse Cisco Systems Inc. (CSCO) and a host of smaller rivals. ''Craig stepped on the gas much more aggressively than I would have,'' concedes Grove, now Intel's chairman. Intel will unveil the fastest PC chip ever sold, a Pentium III that runs at one gigahertz, or one billion cycles per second. But Intel's track record in its core business last year wasn't so good. The company had a rash of blunders in 1999--microprocessors and chipsets delivered months late, embarrassing design bugs, and supply shortages. Even loyal customers like Dell Computer Corp. (DELL) and Gateway Inc. (GTW) have taken the highly unusual step of publicly blaming the chip giant's gaffes for their recent earnings problems. Gateway was so incensed over supply problems that it's giving some orders to archrival Advanced Micro Devices Inc. (AMD), which has caught up to Intel in chip performance. By the big changing of intel was increase their competition in the market. This chapter is an very important clone that let the intel very success in today because like sun zi said if

the general cannot master the art of variations and adaptability, he will not be able to deploy his troops to maximum advantage despite understanding the five strategic considerations.

Recommendations Intel Corporation is an American multinational semiconductor chip maker whose headquarters is based in Santa Clara, California, United State. It is also one of the largest semiconductor chip maker in the world. Intel Corporation will one day become the world largest semiconductor chip maker in this hi-tech information era. This is due to their strategy and the tactics they applied and the experience and R&D on this field. Although Intel is an example of success, they are still many challenges and management problems to address. In this session, we will provide a few constructive and beneficial suggestions or recommendations to Intel Corporation hence, they will be able to enhance their company performances effectively. Firstly, the key point of success is to provide a pleasant working environment. Atmosphere of a relax ambience will directly increase the productivity and efficiency of the staff. A good working atmosphere will always make the mood of the staff happy and more delightful as they can really enjoy doing their work just like at home. Therefore, if Intel can give all their staff a better working environment, they definitely will put in all their effort to work with the company. As a result, the company productivity and financial performance will increase. Furthermore, setting a goal that is challenging but achievable is inevitable. The purpose of a goal is to provide a clear direction of the company and at the same time act as a guideline to prevent from falling out of the main goal that they previously set. If the company doesnt set up their own goal, they become lost and have a vagus direction and become unorganized. On the other hand, if every goals that the company have previously set can all be achieved, it means the company still is in line with the main goal. Therefore, in this scenario, the company will operate in a more orderly and sustainable manner.

In addition, providing unlimited easy access of information to their employee is vital for the company future development. Accessing quick access to information will enable every employee to search for the info they required in work quickly and effectively. Besides, this implementation will help employee who is working outside the company to be able to easily access the data without facing any hassle or

obstruction and indirectly will increase their efficiency and productivity. If Intel did not apply this measure, they could eventually lose a lot of talented employee, opportunities and business revenues. Hence, offering an easy access to information is the crux that will determine the survival of the company. Moreover, staff interaction, communication and teamwork are crucial factors that will directly influence one companys development. If we want to make a company flourished, these factors must be taken into further consideration. Having a good relationship or interaction between employer and employee is very important . Working relationship wil become easier and can reduce conflict between both of them if there are good comunication between them. Teamwork is another key factor. So, Intel must instil the spirit of teamwork to every single employee to let them practise until they totally assimilated. As a result, having a strong and united team in a company will elevate the productivity and performance of the employee. On the other hand, employer must constantly keep reviewing their business plans and tactics used. The company will gain further as new set of goals and targets are introduced for the betterment of the company. In the event there is any unexpected shortcomings or downside pertaining to business plans after it is implemented, an assessment will be made to identify the root cause. The root cause will be evaluated and if there is any weakness, it will be rectified and further improvement will be made to strengthen the grey areas. This will help the company to be a step ahead in dealing a similar scenario if it was to occur again. Offering a free learning course that is related to the employee work is a good suggestion due to the recent intense competition around the world. If every employee is willing to upgrade themselves by signing up for the learning programmes provided by the company, they definitely will be well-equipped with the latest information and knowledge. Consequently, they will become more competitive compared to others and have the capability to solve the problems more effectively. In this scenario, the company will greatly increase their professionalism on that field. Moreover, the company should impose environmental-friendly policy in the working place. Environmental-friendly means working in a paperless environment, save energy, recycling paper and so on. Nowadays, the term environmental-friendly become a

trend as company become aware that it can help them to save money and this saving can be used for other development or elsewhere without spending extra expenses. Conclusion Intel was used many of sun zi arts war in their business revolution and increase their competitive in the market. That is why the intel company was become a gaint processor and most famous around the world. From this project I know what is the important of sun zi arts world in nowadays and a lot of their strategic can be applied in this competitive world.
