GRAMMAR: PASSIVE VOICE INTRODUCTION OF PASSIVE VOICE USES o Actions can be mentioned in either an active or a passive voice.

In English the passive voice is used less often than the active voice, but it does have particular uses.

Active Form In active sentences, the thing doing the action is the subject of the sentence and the thing receiving the action is the object. Most sentences are active. [Thing doing action] + [verb] + [thing receiving action] Examples:

Passive Form You can use the passive form if you think that the thing receiving the action is more important or need to be emphasized. [Thing receiving action] + [be] + [past participle of verb] + [by] + [thing doing action] Examples:

CONSTRUCTI ON PASSIVE VOICE (PRESENT) SN is Past PN are participle UC is I am YOU are

PASSIVE VOICE (PAST) SN - was Past PN - were participle UC - was I - was YOU - were
