Reflection: For this lesson we were wrapping up our unit on supply, demand and market equilibrium. In this unit we worked on a lot of charts and graphs so as a review, I set up 10 different stations. Stations had a graph that showed a shift of the supply curve and students had to identify what could have caused this shift of supply and what would the new equilibrium price and quantity be for example. It took student about 35 to 45 minutes to walk around to each station and answer questions on their packet thoughtfully. After this activity my mentor and I discussed the lesson. We agreed that students were more engaged because it was a completely new activity; this was my first time doing such a hands on kinetic lesson. We also agreed that another positive was that students were held more accountable for the information, since usually our reviews tend to be much more teacher led. My mentor also mentioned that my last teaching time analysis I had 30 minutes of direct instruction and this time the majority of the lesson was student centered, so we spoke about the importance of not staying complacent as far as teaching strategies. My goal from the last teaching time analysis was to accommodate students receiving special education services. I found that because this was such a student centered activity, I was free to wander to room and give students one on one instruction in a way that I cannot do when I am lecturing. At some of the more difficult stations were for example students had to calculate the marginal product of labor for example, I found that I would gravitate there and almost tutor students. I really liked the fact that I was so free and the students were also independent of me, this allowed me to intervene at my discretion while students were working, which I cannot do when the lesson is more teacher led, and I am running the entire class myself. I found that by walking around I got a pretty good sense of what students understood very well and the stations that they struggled with then informed me that I had to offer clarifying points at the end of the lesson so that they were in fact ready for the test the next day.
