Answer any five questions

1. show the per unit impedance of a transformer is the same, whether computed from primary or secondary side, so long as the voltage bases on the two sides are in the ratio of transformation? A single phase transformer is rated 110/440, 2.5 kva, leakage reactance measured from low tension side is 0.06 . Determine leakage reactance in per unit. 2. i)what is a single line diagram? ii) Define per unit value? iii) What is reactance diagram? iv) Write the expression for converting the per unit impedance expressed on one base to changed over to another new base? 3. Consider the 50 Hz power system the single-line diagram of which is shown in Fig. The system contains three generators, three transformers and three transmission lines. The system ratings are Generator G1:200 MVA, 20 kV, Xd = 15% Generator G2:300 MVA, 18 kV, Xd = 20% Generator G3:300 MVA, 20 kV, Xd = 20% Transformer T 1:300 MVA, 220Y/22 kV, Xd = 10% Transformer T 2: Three single-phase units each rated 100 MVA, 130Y/25 kV, X = 10% Transformer T 3:300 MVA, 220/22 kV, X = 10%draw the reactance diagram choosing the Generator 3 circuit as the

base. 4. Draw the reactance diagram for the given power system, choose the 100 MVA as base, 220 KV in 50 line? Determine the terminal voltage of the machine generator:40MVA, 25 KV,X=20% motor: 50MVA, 11 KV,X=30% Y-Y transformer: 40MVA, 33/220 KV,X=15% Y- transformer: 30MVA, 11/220 KV,X=15%

5. With the help of oscillograms of short circuit current, of a synchronous generator, operating on no load, distinguish between the following :i)Sub transient reactance ii) transient reactance iii) steady state reactance of a synchronous machine, and how these are measured in practice. 6. what are the various component divisions of a power system and draw the circuit model for synchronous generator, synchronous motor, 1-transformer, 3-transformer, transmission lines, loads 7. Briefly explain about transients in transmission line?
