Plastic Viscosity (PV) is the resistance of fluid to flow.

It is measured as the ratio of the shearing stress to the rate of shearing strain. Yield Point (Yp) is resistance of initial flow of fluid or the stress required in order to move the fluid. The unit of PV is Centi- Poise (CP) while for Yp is lb/100 ft2

The gel strength is the shear stress of drilling mud that is measured at low shear rate after the drilling mud is static for a certain period of time. It demonstrates the ability of the drilling mud to suspend drill solids and weighting material when circulation is ceased.

Plastic Viscosity: viscosity at 600 rpm viscosity at 300 rpm

Yield Point : viscosity at 300 rpm PV

Funnel viscosity is defined as time, in seconds for one quart of mud to flow through a Marsh funnel. The Marsh funnel has a capacity of 946 cc. The dimension for standard funnel is 12 in. long, 6 in. diameter at the top and 2 in. long, 3 1/6 in. diameter tube at the bottom.

Part A :

The mud will develop into gel structure which is known as gel strength. The gel strength will increase after 10 minutes.

Part B : The result of funnel viscosity of mud should be higher than funnel viscosity of fresh water. However, the result obtain is not true value viscosity. It is just to monitor the viscosity trend. A definite recorded continues increase or decrease in funnel viscosity means that there are mud problem and should be checked.
