Colors from Black and White

Photo Essay

Ms. Joy K.

Invented by: The Sultans of Science Description: Glass lenses, and the lenses in our eyes, bend some colors more than others; this sometimes produces colored fringes around the edges of objects that we see. This white disk is black on one half and contains black arcs of different lengths on the other half. When you spin it quickly, the arcs alternate rapidly with the black semicircle. This confuses the eye, and colored edges are seen on the edges of the arc lines even though they dont really exist. Practical application: You can try this with other things that are also like this. Why I like it: I like it because we discover what we see isnt really there or existing.
