The life cycle of a Frog

Rationale:

To help students understand the life cycle of a frog.


Materials/Equipment:

Objectives:

Lesson Plan:

Introduction (Anticipatory Set/Motivation): Process: 1. Ice breaker- Will play video of the life cycle of frog- Andrea is in charge of presenting video will read sentences on the video. (Andrea) 1 min 2. Review- Mention the previous last lesson which are the chicken and the fish life cycle. Ask Does anyone remember what a life cycle is? Set the mood for the lesson and tell them to keep in mind why the life cycle is important. This person also states the lesson objective. 5 min (Andrea) 3. Intro and seek prior knowledge- Have students hop to the carpet by tables. Create a word web pond to gather background knowledge. Read book and use visuals of the frog and vocabulary on the board while students are sitting down. Ask higher order thinking questions. Touch on certain words from the book and ask what they mean. 5 min (Caroline) 4. Teacher lead whole group- Explain the life cycle with magnetic illustration or photographs and explains what happens in each stage. Give definition of what a life cycle is. Life Cycle: The complete cycle of changes undergone by an organism during its life. 10 min (Sarah) 5. Teacher student lesson through guided practice -Will do stages with students and explain changes in frog. Check for an understanding, give vocabulary and go over them as well as foldable. Restate objective. 5 min (Veronica) 6. Independent practice- the centers: tactile learning, life cycle puzzle, felt frog and frog life cycle game online. Explain what will be going on during centers. See attached activities. 3 min to explain and 4 min per center. (Shayla) Each center will have a teacher in charge of it. 7. Assessment- Draw and write about the frogs life cycle and turn and talk with partner. Have two people share from each group. 5min (Jennifer)

Have the directions with big pictures and letters so the student will be able to read and see the pictures better.

Enrichment/Extension:
1.

Hop like a frog in the hallway. See who can hop the farthest in group. 2. Frog plate: Take home the activity and bring back tomorrow to be used as an assessment. The student will write the stages on the plate as well as words that associate with that cycle.

Assessment/Evaluation: 3. The students will draw a picture of their favorite stage of the frog life cycle and will write one to two sentences describing why.
