An induction motor has two main parts

CONSTRUCTION OF STATOR
Each grouping of coils, together with the steel core it surrounds, form an electromagnet.

The stator windings are connected directly to the power source.

Types
Squirrel cage type:
Copper bars embedded in the rotor slots Shorted at both end by end rings Simple, low cost, robust, low maintenance

Wound rotor type:

Winding is wound by wires. Slip rings and brushes . Easy to control speed, more expensive.
