Where did these civilizations settle? Egyptians- The Egyptians settled along the Nile River in the northeast corner of Africa from about 3100 B.C.E to 350 C.E. Kushites- The Kushites settled on the southern part of the Nile River, in southern Egypt from about 2000 B.C.E. until 350 C.E. Hebrews- The Hebrews settled in the northeast of Egypt, or Canaan lasting from about 1800 B.C.E. until it was destroyed in 70 C.E.

Geography: Important fact- The Nile river was crucial for the Egyptians survival.

Diet: Important fact(s)- The Egyptians were open to having meat (geese, duck, oxen, gazelle, etc.) which was a good source of protein. They were also accessible to good crop such as wheat, barley, and flax.

Recreation: Important fact(s)- Games and toys were important for the living and the dead. Egyptian children would commonly play senate, a game very similar to chess. Some Senate boards were very elaborate and were made with ivory, and turquoise.

Clothing: Important fact(s)- Egyptian clothing was traditionally made from linen, a fabric made of flax, a plant that grew along the Nile. The traditional Egyptian sandal, made for both genders, was made of papyrus.

Housing: Important Fact- Most homes were made of sun-dried mud scooped from the banks of the Nile River, eventually mixed with pebbles and straw.

Beauty: Important Fact- Egyptian wigs were made out of real human hair and were fastened to the scalp with beeswax. Men and women both wore makeup and perfume.

Language: Important fact- There are 700 different hieroglyphs* in the Egyptian language. *Hieroglyph means sacred carving in Greek

Music: Important fact- Dancers would dance to the sound of flutes, castanets, rattles, clappers, and symbols.

Pharaohs: Important fact- Many powerful and beloved deities (such as Osiris) were depicted with beards; therefore, wearing a beard was an iconic symbol of power

Burial: Important fact- Poor citizens were often wrapped in linen, and buried in the sandy desert, whereas Pharaoh Khufu of the old kingdom was buried in a cedar sarcophagus.

Afterlife: Important fact- Death rituals and preparation for the afterlife were so elaborate, that Egyptologists know more about how Egyptians died than how they lived.
