INQUIRY MODEL

Is about...

Inquiry (A.K. A. "Scientific Inquiry") is an instructional method focused on using and learning content as a means to develop informationprocessing and problem-solving skills. It's designed to help students develop skills by experiencing with the scientific method, which is a pattern of thinking that emphasizes asking questions, developing hypotheses to answer the questions, and testing the hypotheses with data.

THEORETICAL FOUNDATION
_v

Based on the works of John bewey. .who advocated child-centered learning based on real-world experiences Built on the idea that when people are presented with a scenario or problem and assisted by a facilitator, they will identify and research issues and questions to develop their own knowledge or solutions to the problem. A.K.A="ACTIVE LEARNIN6"...Both a "teaching-model" & a "strategy" Student-centered/Teacher-as-facilitator
-Identify Topic--Teacher identifies the Inquiry question /Problem for investigation... (Question must involve a variable that can be manipulated and an effect that can be measured). -Specify Learning Objective=Will always be centered on "solving the inquiry problem, learning the critical thinking stalls associated with the inquiry problem, and finding content relationships". -Plan for Data 6athering=Students develop strategies for gathering data...Teachers should plan ahead of time so that they can provide enough guidance for their students...this may include examples and/or demonstrations.

PLANNING

IMPLEMENTING

-Identify Question=The teacher and/or students (preferably) identify a question that the students will make an attempt o answer/This question is intended to grab the students' attention and provoke a challenge...must be an "open-ended" question Senerote Hypotheses=Students begin to generate a hypothesis (guess) that attempts to solve the problem/answer the question Gather and Display Data=5tudents perform research and gather data that is related to their hypotheses...however, before they begin, students must understand the concept controlled variable? (the variable that is not held constant will need further investigation)/ Students then begin to access the validity of their hypotheses by organizing and displaying their data -Assess Hypotheses and generalize- Teacher guides students' analysis to be sure that their conclusions are grounded in the data that they've gathered/Students are

-ASSESSING -MOTIVATION -MODIFICATION

Teachers can assess the students by performance assessments (measures knowledge and skill), systematic observations (assess students' strengths and weaknesses), checklists ("checks off" the desired goal when it is met), rating scales (measures the degree of success), and case studies (determines if students can form hypotheses and relate the data to explanations). Students are motivated by curiosity, challenge, real world examples, student involvement, and the ability to be independent. Teachers can modify the skill with younger children by presenting problems that are clear, concrete, and personalized while providing them with the guidance needed to successfully solve the problem.

So what? What is important to understand about this?

The Inquiry model helps to increase intellectual engagement and foster deep understanding through the development of a hands-on, minds-on and research-based disposition towards teaching and learning. It Strives to provide opportunities for both teachers and Students to collaboratively build, test, and reflect on their learning.
