Protocols and Standards

Protocols is set of rules that governs data communications A protocol defines what is communicated, how it is communicated and when it is communicated The key element of protocol is:
Syntax: refers to the structure or format of data Semantics: refers to the meaning of each section of bits Timing: When data should be sent and how fast they can be sent

Standards Organizations:
ISO (International Standards Organization) ITU-T (International Telecommunication UnionTelecommunication standards section) CCITT (Consultative Committee for International Telegraphy and Telephony) ANSI (American National Standards Institute) IEEE EIA (Electronic Industries Association)
