Common definition of Music


The art or science of combining vocal or instrumental sounds (or both) to produce beauty of form, harmony, and expression of emotion. A vocal or instrumental sound being produced. A sound that changes over time, and evolves with changes in social and culture context.

Music = Organized Sound?


Organized sounds are commonly known as a set of notes or chords that are in the same key. Organized sound sounds good generally. Music contains Organized Sounds, but there are other forms of Music as well.

Elements of Music

Element of Music: Instruments


Instruments are constructed with the purpose of making music. Instruments can be anything, from your own hands, vocals to complex instruments like Piano. Examples: Basic chords on the Piano, music made from vocals.

Element of Music: Dynamics


Refers to the softness or loudness of a sound note, e.g. pianissimo or fortissimo. Used to not make music plain. Gives emotion and feels to the music. Examples: Pieces on instruments usually contains various ranges of dynamics.

Element of Music: Tempo


Defined as the Speed or Pace of a given piece. Affects the mood and difficulty of a piece. Fast tempo might symbolize a happy piece Slow tempo might symbolize a sad and depressing piece
