Abosaeed ETD 517 Technology Planning and Issues Sept 15, 2012 Technology Inventory List Zahnow Library at Saginaw Valley State University (SVSU) Zahnow Library is one of the largest and most modern libraries in the district in which is located in Bay City, Michigan. Library's name refers to one of the university's founders, who is Melvin J. Zahnow. It opened its doors in the spring of 1987 and spread over four floors. Each floor has lots of services that include reading room in fourth floor, the library's cafe and Writing Center in third floor, the Student Technology Center in second floor, and Reference Services, which offer many forms of research assistance to students, in first floor. The library offers for students a comfortable and convenient place for research and study with wired and wireless computer capabilities throughout the library, or you can utilize your laptop registered to use the SVSU wireless service. In the first floor of the library, there is a computer lab with 60 seats. When the lab is not scheduled for any class or event, it is an available for students use. In the second floor, the staff of the Student Technology Center is available to assist students with most questions relating to technology and software used on campus. In the third floor, the staff of the Writing Center is available to assist students with writing papers, using the different citing styles, and to develop their skills as writers and critical thinkers. The fourth floor is designated as a quiet floor. Students may use the group study rooms and conference rooms when they are not scheduled for other activities. The library offers a vast array of collections to enhance research and learning. Its collections cover a vast array of topics and formats, including books, magazines, media, videos, CDs, cassette tapes, archives, ERIC collections, Journals, and reserve collections. Also, it has subscriptions to many online resources through online databases that include e-articles and e-journals.

Library staff is approximately 21 employees from the director, specialists, assistants, administrative secretaries, and reference librarians. They work hard in order to provide better services to students and faculty of SVSU. Also, They work collaboratively with faculty to add new materials that serve the learning and teaching process in various fields. The mission of the library is to provide information resources as well as services that promote the teaching and research needs of the students, faculty and staff of SVSU. While the main goals of the library are as follows: provide lots of services and assistances that enhance the accessibility of library resources efficiently, student academic success, and innovation through professional development and continuing learning of library staff. Also, create new modes of communication and interaction with students and faculty to increase the use of library resources and services. The information below will highlight the hardware that is available in Zahnow library at SVSU. In the first floor of the library, there are a large number of computers, which are up to 106 desktops and all of them from "Dell OptiPlex" type. Also, there are 33 laptops, however only 10 laptops are available for check out at the Circulation Desk at first floor for 3 days. Laptops are already equipped with DVD/CDRW and Windows XP Professional. More recently, 3 iPads are also available for check out at the Circulation Desk at first floor for 3 days. In the second floor of the library, there are 42 desktops and 6 MacBooks. While, there are 17 desktops in the third floor and 8 desktops in the fourth floor. Also, the library offers 7 copiers that are available for all students, faculty and staff. In addition, printers are distributed throughout the library, so that there are 17 printers in the first floor, 7 printers in the second floor, 3 printers in the writing center in the third floor and 6 printers in the fourth floor. The kinds of printers available are varying between mixer, laser, and Deck Jets. Also, it offers some human inputs and other devices, such as 3 digital cameras, 3 Microfilm scanners, 2 inventory readers, 1 document camera, 3 scanners, 4 T.Vs and Visual Studio. Finally, The library provides several types of software, which include Adobe Creative Suite Design Premium, Azar's English Grammar, Corel Office (WordPerfect, QuattroPro, Presentations), E-LASSI, Firefox, GIMP/GTK/Hot Potatoes, Hyperstudo,

Internet Explorer, KompoZer, Listening Activities, Matlab, Microsoft Office Programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Music-Various, Open Office, SPSS, Maple, and WebServer and Jing.
