Marion Brady became the type of teacher that I myself strive to be back in the 1970s and 80s. He sat back and instead of lecturing for hours on end he let the students explore, inquire, and investigate. Mr. Brady learned that when you gave the students the traditional passage of lecture, textbook assignment, and then a test they really arent getting all that they can from the time spent. I want to be the teacher that acts as a guide or a facilitator rather than an allknowing source of information that students often look to for quick answers. I dont believe that education should push children into becoming dependent upon adults, memorizing facts, or a reading to find answers and to explore the world. We are doing the children a great disservice if they leave school and are unable to find their own way. Mr. Brady found that when the students were working in groups and collaborating a lot more thoughtful ideas and knowledge was being gained. We often see that when students are working together and thinking aloud with many different perspectives their thoughts are being challenged.
