Materials: Flute

Lesson plan: I. Introduction of different parts a. b. c. d. II. Head Joint Middle Joint Foot Joint Embouchure plate/ Embouchure hole

Assembly of the Instrument 1. Open the case with right side up (label on the top). 2. Put the foot joint into the middle joint and make the rod to line up to center of the tone holes of the middle joint. 3. Put the head joint into the middle joint and align embouchure hole to the center of the tone holes.

Posture 1. Sit up straight 2. Left hand: form a shelf at the base of the thumb by making the C shape. Place thumb on the long straight key on the underside of the flute. 3. Right hand: place thumb under the flute between the first and second fingers. Place little finger on the Eb Key. 4. Elbows away from the body

IV.

Forming the embouchure and creating the first sound 1. Remove the head joint 2. Shape mouth as if saying whee-doo 3. Place the head joint on the chin with corners of the lower lip resting against the embouchure plate. 4. Blow air on doo and create a controlled, solid tone

V.

Introduction of first two notes: Bb & C 1. Introduce Bb 2. Introduce C

Rhythmic exercises on doo 1. Bb 2. C 3. Mix of Bb & C
