Evaluation Question 7. What do you feel you have learnt in the progression to the final product?

I feel that I have developed my organisational skills, since completing the Prelimiary Task, 'Getting By'. I especially feel this was developed whilst making mistakes and having to re-film the final product. As we had changed our minds several times on the plot synopsis and casting of 'Edward', I learnt that in order to complete the task on time, we would have to focus more on our filming, and choose precisely what we were film each time, and how. The preliminary task did not require as much filming as the opening horror sequence, which therefore challenged my organisation skills, and allowed me to see just how much work would be required.

I feel that since working on the preliminary task, I have developed my understanding of the horror genre. The preliminary task did not have a specified genre in the brief, therefore I found it challenging to adhere to a form in the final opening of 'Edward'. However after researching the horror genre more thoroughly, I have gained a clearer understanding of what is required to be in a horror film, and what is successful, contrasted to what is not. Not only has my knowledge of the horror convention expanded, but also a much wider knowledge of what the audience likes to see in films. Especially when showing each other our final product in groups during class time, I was able to truly see what the audience wants from a film, and therefore my group made alterations to suit the target audience more specifically.

I also feel that making this final product has significantly developed my knowledge of media software. When making the preliminary task, we used a software called i-Movie which included the basic skills to edit and compose the task. I found this challenging at the time as I had never edited a media film before. However this progressed to the use of a much more complex software called Final Cut, in which we were able to edit the film more efficiently and professionally, consequently producing a higher level of work for the opening of our horror film I am pleased with the skills that this software has taught me, and I enjoyed using it also.
