Reading stories related to the theme will also help build both Narrative Skills and Enriched Vocabulary.
Model activity o Tell families that we will be designing I love you bouquets. o Demonstrate the sign for I Love You in ASL (Fold down your middle two fingers) o Introduce other ways that people communicate using the other vocabulary words o Demonstrate the project Trace five sets of hands on different colors of construction paper (or however many time permits). Parents/ Guardians should assist their child in doing this. Glue the hands together, while putting a pipe cleaner in between. Fold down the two middle fingers. Bundle the pipe cleaners together to make a bouquet. Six Skills connection: Remind adults that using the vocabulary will build both Narrative Skills and Enriched Vocabulary.
Families engage in activities o Invite families to go to tables and plan their bouquets using the construction paper and pipe cleaners Six Skills connection: Remind adults that giving children an opportunity to practice writing/scribbling will eventually build

How to extend the learning at home (tips for parents and caregivers): o Continue to use the new vocabulary that you explored during the play o o o o
session. Ask your child to retell/recall the experiences from the play literacy session. Explore other forms of communication like using Skype to talk to someone who might be in a different state. Use newspapers/ radio/ TV to incorporate the ideas of how people communicate. Review ways that people who did not have the technology that we have today and how they might have stayed connected.
