Policy Internship

ASHRAE is now accepting applications for a Public Policy Internship in its Washington, DC Government Affairs Office. ASHRAE, founded in 1894, is a building technology society with more than 53,000 members worldwide. The Society and its members focus on building systems, energy efficiency, indoor air quality and sustainability within the industry. Through research, standards writing, publishing and continuing education, ASHRAE shapes tomorrows built environment today. Additional information on ASHRAE is available at www.ashrae.org. The intern will work primarily with, and report to, ASHRAEs Senior Manager of Federal Government Affairs, but also will work, as requested, the Director of Government Affairs and Manager of State and Local Government Affairs. The incumbents duties will include, but not be limited to: Attending and reporting on Congressional hearings and coalition meetings Assisting in scheduling, preparing for, and attending meetings with Congressional offices Researching public policy positions and actions taken by policymakers at the federal, state, and local levels, as well as those taken by other technical societies and other organizations working on issues of interest to ASHRAE Assisting staff in the preparation of public policy documents and government affairs training materials General administrative duties as assigned, including note-taking during committee and coalition meetings Prerequisites for consideration: Current undergraduate or graduate study in a public policy- or government affairs-related field Self-motivated and responsive Excellent communications and organizational skills Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint Knowledge of social media specifically, Twitter and Facebook Willingness to perform administrative duties and to work in a small, tight-knit office
