Jill and I are both overall pleased with the results of the ABI and feel as though these plans worked well for two of the three objectives we were working on in the plan for ABI. Prior to the implementation of the ABI, Tyler would frequently mix up colors such as orange and yellow and purple and pink. Within a couple of days of the start of working toward the first goal of the ABI, Tyler began consistently naming the colors correctly, and continued adding to his repertoire of correct color identification throughout the rest of the ABI implementation. We will continue to embed learning opportunities in for maintenance and generalization purposes.

Jill and I were particularly happy with the results of the second objective of the ABI plan which was identifying his name when given a choice of two by recognizing the first letter. Prior to the start of the implementation of the ABI plan, Tyler was unable to consistently pick his name out a choice of two, and when he did it was undoubtedly a guess. With strong focus on teaching him the first letter of his name, Tyler quickly (two days) became able to choose his name out a choice of two names with different first letters by looking at only the first letters. By the sixth day we moved to showing him two whole names with different first letters; he was able to correctly identify his name, clearly looking at the first letter to find his T. On the eighth day, Tyler correctly identified his name out of a set of five names. On the ninth day, Tyler identified his name out of Tyler and Tyller. Not only did Tyler meet the objective I created on the Planning Worksheet: Section I, he met the entire goal in just nine days! Jill and I have decided to continue with name recognition for maintenance and generalization purposes, and also move onto identifying individual letters in his name. The third goal was the least successful out of the three. Tyler is able to count one through nine; however, he consistently skips the number four. Throughout the ABI implementation Tyler counted many times and always skipped the number four; however, when prompted to say the number four in counting, would always do so. Jill and I decided to continue working on counting in the same manner with him; however, change the focus to counting to four by rote. We will fade the level of prompting as he begins to include four in his rote counting. Jill has scheduled a home visit with Rachel for April 24, 2013.
