Red boxes Transferable skills in the media and work place.

Why do I feel these are the most important transferable skills? Why do I feel these are the most important in comparison to others?

I think that independence is one of the most important things within the media industry and the work industry because if you have your own independence it will allow the employer to know that you are trustworthy and if there were any troubles then you would be able to work it out for yourself. This is important compared to eye for detail as if you didnt have that independence then you wouldnt have the eye for detail as you wouldnt look into your work as much and try to make it to the best of your ability.

Confidence is one of the most important things as I think that if you have confidence then the employer would want to employ you as you know what you are talking about and the subject interests you as they can see it in the way that you are talking about it. This is better than compared to Outgoing because if you are confident then you do not necessarily need to be outgoing if you are comfortable with what industry and job that you are in.

Ability to meet deadlines is very important. Deadlines within the work place are one of the most important things. If you as an employee didnt meet a deadline then the company could loose a customer or maybe a magazine page wouldnt be filled. This compared to creativity is very different. If your work is creative, the employer will love it, but if they do not get it in on time then the creative part doesnt matter anymore.

Multi tasking is very helpful in the work place. It allows the employer to see that you can juggle more than one task and then get them perfect. It shows you are organized and are able to take on big tasks.

Communication skills are very important. This is because you may have to communicate with another department or even a client. If you are not good at communicating then it you could loose your job, as you arent there to pass on messages, state your opinion or even close a big deal for the company. Communication skills compared to leadership skills is different yet similar. It would be good to show leadership skills, but if you cannot communicate then you would be unable to become a leader and take on big roles.

Being reliable is extremely important in my opinion. I think this because if you arent reliable then the employer will not think you are able to cope with big tasks or even little tasks. It is possible to loose a job if you are not reliable and so it is essential when in the work place. Flexibility also is helpful in the work place but being reliable is much better and the employer would prefer that.

The blue boxes are the 5 skills that I think best describe me as a potential employee.

Creativity, ability to use a computer & programs, using your initiative, ability to learn and ability to listen are the 5 main skills that I feel best describe me as a potential employee. Creativity I have learnt to be creative throughout school/sixth form. I have done this because every year I have taken a creative subject and this has allowed me to use my imagination and to create creative products. Ability to use a computer & programs I have gained the ability to use a computer and different programs on the computer such as Adobe Photoshop,

Premier pro, all of the Microsoft programs and many other programs. This has been linked with creativity because if I hadnt have learnt how to use the programs then I would have been able to be out there with my creativity and I wouldnt have been able to create the products that I have. Using your initiative Using my initiative is part of every day life and every day I have broaden it. I worked on the set of James Bonds film Skyfall and I had to use my initiative when I got left alone. Also with the work I have produced in school and sixth form. Sometime a teacher wouldnt be present and so I would have to do what I think is right and carry on my work, if I didnt know what to do then I would find another teacher and ask them. I would use my initiative to do all of these tasks. Ability to learn Ability to learn is like using your initiative; it is in every day life. My ability to learn has broadened every day as every day I learn something different and sometimes I would learn in different ways. One day I could be learning from textbooks but another day it could be practical and I could be learning by making something. An example of me learning was when I worked in McDonalds for the summer, I had to learn how to work the till and I did this by watching another member of the McDonalds team and remember what she did. The more I was on the till, the better I got at working it. Ability to listen Ability to listen is essential. Within the work place, if you do not listen then you wouldnt know what to do. I have learnt how to listen through school/sixth form and through work experience and jobs. I had two weeks work experience in a Doctors Surgery and I had no idea what I was doing as one day I wasnt told anything, but when I did get told what to do, I listened to them even if I was busy. I have learnt how to listen whilst I am doing something, so I am able to include listening whilst multi tasking which is very good when working in a busy environment.
