Commanders Report
We have three major events over the next three months that our camp will help host. April 20th is Heritage Day at the Brandon Library (300), May 18th-20th is the Trail of Honor (25,000), and our relic show is June 22nd & 23rd. Please help with all three, especially the relic show! Please ask yourself: What can I do for my camp? What have I done for my camp? Remember the tired clich, we are only going to get out of our camp what we put into it! Our speaker this month is Brother David Bryan. His topic is a surprise. We need your attendance at the meetings and your help with the next three events. And as sure as time and tide wait for no man, I will probably see you at our next meeting on April 6th at Penns in Brandon. May God bless you and yours. Dum Spiro Spero Tim Cupit

Chaplains Report By: Tom Fortenberry

In 1951, General William Jordan Bush, Confederate Veteran, flew to Jackson Mississippi to attend a United Confederate Veterans reunion. While at the reunion General Bush, at the age of 107, met with General William D. Townsend, Confederate Veteran, who was 106 years of age. Everywhere they went, some recall, the old soldiers jokingly asked for "whiskey, cigars and pretty girls." General Salling claimed his hair was still dark because he had "never touched it with water." General Salling died prior to the last meeting between General Bush and General Townsend 1951. General Bush frequently wore a uniform presented to him by a movie company, a replica of Robert E. Lee's. Bush swore he'd be buried in it. All three claimed they were never issued uniforms during their tours of duty with the Confederate Army, and, by 1951, despite their service rank, they were all called "general." The reunion between General Bush and General Townsend was the last known reunion of Confederate veterans. General William Jordan Bush, last survivor of the 125,000 men from Georgia who fought for the South. Gen. Bush was born near Gordon, Ga. July 10, 1845, and died Nov. 11, 1952. In the War Between the States he was a private in Co. B, 14th Ga. Infantry, under Capt. Tom Wilcox and Gen. John B. Gordon. His title of General was won through offices held in the United Confederate Veterans. Active until a few weeks before his death at 107, Gen. Bush attended all UCV reunions and danced at public functions. General Bush and General Townsend both were faithful in their duties. Faithfull to follow the flag and faithful to the cause which joined them together unto the day they died. Today we may not hear the roll of drums or the sound of a bugle rising up the camp to arms. But if you listen you will hear the voices of these men calling upon each of us to join together stronger as we faithfully stand shoulder to shoulder in faith and support of the camp. I love the words in Matt 25:23 23 His lord said to him, 'Well done, good and faithful servant; you have been faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.' NKJV Thomas Fortenberry, Chaplain SCV Camp 265

Adjutants Report By: Sid Boteler

Effective the first week of this month there are 67 compatriots whose names comprise the membership roster of our camp. I salute each man who has chosen to be a part of this unique heritage organization known both nationally and internationally as the Sons of Confederate Veterans. Stand fast gentlemen for that in which you believe. Quote of the Month: General Robert E. Lee surrendered to General Ulysses S. Grant on April 9, 1865 at Appomattox, Virginia. Lee took off his sword and handed it to Grant, and Grant handed it back. The next day, April 10, 1865, General Lee issued his final order to his army: I have determined to avoid the useless sacrifice of those whose past services have endeared them to their countrymen. By terms of the agreement, officers and men can return to their homes I earnestly pray that a merciful God will extend to you his bless and protection. Sid Boteler Adjutant

Member Ed Lofton has traveled to coin shows in AL, TN, & MS to invite dealers to our show. A plea from the commander: If you dont help with any other event this year, please put it on your schedule to attend and help with this years Interactive Civil War Relic Show. We also need your help leading up to the show: sell an ad, get a contribution, come up with an idea, or give your opinion. This is not limited to members. Did you know?

This one-story clapboard structure began its life in circa 1832 as the Wilkinson Stage Coach Stop in Brandon. A small structure was added for an inn. The Wilkinson stables and pastures were considered the best in the area. Mr. Wilkinson also kept a few goods and plenty of whiskey for his traveling customers. He gave the property to this granddaughter upon her marriage in 1872. The property was sold in 1916 to Henry L. Whitfield, who later became the governor of Mississippi in 1925. He sold the property to the Bible family, who frame and trellis and enclosed the building to become a duplex. They side, which provided a first home for were added on one at a time as space spanning almost two centuries. Every one tiny closet for the whole house mechanicals). The home has seven with different measurements, and four added the concrete porches to replace the cistern. The Bibles reconstructed the rented one side and lived on the other many who moved to Brandon. Rooms was needed - each in a different decade, wall has a different angle, and there is just (now home to the central system outside doors and eighteen windows, all porches of varying sizes, one over the old

cistern. In the most recent renovations to conform this old structure to a current century home, only one door was replaced and two walls removed, the farmhouse sink was salvaged, and one of the three salvaged claw foot tubs sits proudly in the bathroom. Now there is an herb garden planted in front of the old chicken coop, a vegetable garden planted in the old potato patch, and the beginning of a fruit tree orchard behind the 1832 barn, slated for future renovation. What was once nominated in 2009 as one of Mississippis Most Endangered Historical Properties recently won a 2012 Mississippi Heritage Trust State Rehabilitation Merit Award and is now the comfortable home of Christal Jenkins and her mother, Dorothy Jenkins.
