Binders Organizationisalifeskillthatyouwillneedinsideandoutsideoftheclassroom.To developthisskill,youwillberequiredtokeepanorganizedbinderofallyourclassnotes, gradedassignments,andanyothermaterialsthatpertaintothisclass.Iwillgradethese bindersperiodicallyinclassaccordingtotheirorganization(thiswillreflectyourinclass workgrade).Ifyoustayontopoforganizingyourbinderonadailybasis,youwill havenotroublereceivingthefullamountofpoints. Journals Wewillbejournalingfrequentlyinthisclass.Ifindthatitsmucheasiertoacquire understandingwhenwehaveourideasoutinfrontofusinordertoreinforcethem,refute them,changethem,orkeepthem.Thesejournalentrieswillrevolvearoundreadings,class discussion,enduringthemesfromourclass,orsimplyfreewriting.Journalswillbe collectedatabiweeklybasisandreviewedforcompletionofpagelengthrequirements.If youmissajournalentrybecauseofanabsence,itisuptoyoutocontactoneofyour groupmembersinordertogettheprompt(s)thatyoumissed. ReadingMaterials Youwillbereadingavarietyoftexts:novels,poems,songs,shortstories,etc.Youarenot expectedtopurchaseanyofthesematerials.However,itishighlyrecommendedthatyou purchasethenovelswearegoingtobereadinginclass.Thereasonwhyissoyoucanfully utilizetheannotationskillsthatyouwilllearninthisclass.Byhavingapersonalcopy,you willbeabletowriteinthebook,whichwillallowyoutoconnectdirectlywiththetext. You are expected to bring the current book(s)/poem/song lyrics/short stories we are studying each day to class with you. Additionally,youwillhaveperiodicindependentnovelassignmentswhereyouwillbe givenachancetochooseanovelthatreflectsthethemeofthecourse.Thisassignmentis meanttogivestudentstheopportunitytoexploretheirreadinginterestswhileconnecting thembacktothecoursegoals.Therewillbeperiodicchecksandreportsonthis independentwork.

FinalsandMidterms Therewillbeacomprehensivemidtermcoveringthefirsthalfofthematerialineach semester,and,acomprehensivefinalcoveringallofthematerialcoveredforthesemester. Thereareavarietyofformsinwhichthesecouldtakeshape. Plagiarism Plagiarismisrepresentingsomeoneelseswordsorideasasyourown.Itwillnotcomeasa surprisetoyouthatIwillnotacceptanypaperthatisplagiarized(inwholeorinpart, accidentallyoronpurpose).Anyplagiarizedworkwillreceiveazerowithnochancefor resubmission.Asecondincidentofplagiarismwillresultinafailinggradefortheclassas wellasanyotherrepercussionsfromdepartmentalpolicy.Also,cheatingisnottolerated.
