The design of the Jamaican flag is a result of submissions from a national competition. The color green symbolizes the vegetation in the country, the color gold is symbolizes the sun, and the color black represents the strength and creativity of the citizens of Jamaica. National Anthem: Jamaica, Land We Love Written by Hugh Braham Sherlock, composed by Robert Charles Lightbourne and arranged by Mapletoft Poulle. The music and lyrics of Jamaica's national anthem were created separately and arranged by Mapletoft Poulle, then submitted just as the flag.
