WORK FROM HOME (TELECOMMUTING)

AN EMERGING TREND

INTRODUCTION
Telecommuting is use of computers and telephones to enable an employee to work off-site and outside the traditional work place. This could include working partially, like one to three days a week from home, or working entirely at home corresponding when necessary with the employer.

Telecommuting is moving the work to the workers instead of the workers moving to work.
It can be performed online( with direct computer linkage) or offline May constitute all or part of the workers job May be carried out by self employed workers or by employees.

The term Telework (or telecommuting, remote work, distance work, work from home) has been used to cover variety of situations. Electronic Home work: This most widespread form of telework is practised in the workers own home, using new information and communication. Satellite centres: These are separate units with an enterprise, geographically removed from the central organisation but remaining in constant electronic communication. Mobile Work: Professionals whose work involve travel can link up to their offices and have access to data banks, e-mail, etc

Disadvantages
