STANDARD FEATURE CODES FOR LISCAD It has been necessary for practical purposes to adopt a standard system for

coding data into data recorders. This is because Geospatial Science uses a variety of different data recorders i.e. that accept both alpha and numeric codes. We have therefore decided to standardise the procedure for practicals by adopting Numeric Feature Codes. Attached is a listing of feature codes to be used in all exercises.

Stringing
To facilitate the joining of similar features, e.g. kerbs, transmission wires, fences, drains, etc., it is possible to use "stringing" techniques when entering data in the field. If this approach is adopted then once data has been downloaded onto LISCAD then symbols and lines (with appropriate characteristics) will automatically be created for the CAD section of the software. The following procedure should be adopted:
In the Field

Individual points that are not to be joined should be entered as CCC (N.B.: CCC represents the 3 digit code of the point and relates that it is not a string, e.g. 1 is a permanent survey mark and 21 is a tree). Points that are to be "strung" together will appear as CCC## where CCC is the 3 digit code and ## represents the string number, e.g. 431 is edge of bitumen road string number 1, and 939 is a fence, string number 9. (N.B.: LISCAD PLUS will automatically join points with the same string number but in the order they are entered. Therefore when joining up or finishing a string later on it is better to give this "joining string" a new number. No negatives are needed when changing from one string to another. It is better to just make a new string number, e.g. 491 is the left hand kerb line, 492 is the right hand kerb line.

When Downloading onto LISCAD PLUS

Ensure that the LISCAD code is set to CCCSS (i.e. 3 digit code and 2 digit string) Download with the NUMERIC.CTB adopted, i.e. the numeric code table. (N.B. : Do not use the Alpha.CTB at all)
