SCHOOL COUNSELING EXPERIENCE

Carrboro High School, Carrboro, NC School Counseling Intern August 2012- June 2013 Used data-based theories to counsel 9th-12th grade students on their individual goals. Planned and delivered classroom guidance lessons on academic success, college and career planning, and registration (data available). Led small groups for disadvantaged populations on topics such as college access and healthy relationships to increase knowledge on these topics (data available). Extensive work with special populations in AVID, ESL, transfer students, and referred students. Targeted counseling with at risk seniors on college planning, financial aid, transition planning, self-advocating skills, management and organization. Co-led registration in its 1st year as an online process for students via Career Cruising; taught 900+ students and personnel; 700+ students registered for classes online in March. Participated in the Student Support Team, Counselor meetings, Senior CARE Team, Scholarship Committee, and parent/student/teacher conferences. Assisted in various parents/students nights such as: Open House, 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th Grade Nights, Rising 9th and Rising Senior Night, Financial Aid Night, and Registration Night. Experience with as well as practice training students, parents, and teachers on computer programs including Naviance, Career Cruising, and NCWise. Proctored, administered, and interpreted the CogAT, PLAN, PSAT, and AP tests. Head Resident, Denison University August 2010-May 2012 Built and fostered a community among nine residential buildings through supervision of Resident Assistants (RAs), continued RA responsibilities, programming, counseling/advising, and staff development; led weekly individual and staff meetings. Resident Assistant, Denison University August 2009-May 2010 Built and fostered a community within a freshmen dormitory through programming, counseling and advising residents, connecting students with personal and academic opportunities, and upholding the values of the institution. College Tour Guide and Host, Denison University January 2009- May 2012 Acted as a positive representative for the university; gave tours to prospective students and families, and hosted overnights for prospective students.
