Statement of Career Interest My name is Alexandrea Oliphant and I am currently a 7th grade science teacher at Pershing Middle School,

in Houston, TX. While working in Houston ISD, I have worked with many students, faculty and staff from diverse populations, those from different socioeconomic statuses, religions and beliefs. I believe that this experience gives me the versatility and diversity that is necessary in order to be a highly effective administrator. My enthusiasm to meet the needs of all students drives me to use all resources available to meet school needs and goals. I enjoy helping others using my creativity I am determined to complete any task that I set out to accomplish to the best of my ability. With these as my strengths, I believe that I can be a positive and resourceful teacher to the students at your school in a range of settings.

My undergraduate degree is in biology and in May 2013, I will attain my Masters degree in Educational Leadership. I have an unexplainable drive to grow as an educator, and completing my graduate degree from the University of St. Thomas has allowed me to grow exponentially as an educator. I have shared my abilities and knowledge with my other counterparts (teachers, staff and administrators). During my time as an educator and in addition to my teacher responsibilities, I have served as a teacher leader two 7th and 8th grade

teams at my school. I organized a student community service project at my school, which benefitted the Houston SPCA where we raised money and purchased $850 dollars of needed pet supplies for homeless animals. I have coordinated a large-scale school field day and graduation. This year, I designed and implemented a tardy policy that my principal and school leadership chose to utilize school wide to reduce student tardiness. I have helped my school administrators design a new discipline documentation form that has been implemented school wide this school year. I have served on the faculty advisory committee, which helps to find solutions to various school issues at my school for the past 2 years. I have also been appointed as my schools representative for the HISD teacher advisory committee. Last year, I represented my school at the Texas Association of Middle School conference and I was nominated for Teacher of the Year award at my school. I have also spent much of my time volunteering to chaperone or lending a helping hand at various school functions ranging from student orientation to school dances. In March of 2013, I was inducted into the Pi Lambda Chapter of Kappa Delta Pi, an educational honor society, alongside other hardworking and dedicated educators. In the near future, I wish to have the opportunity to become an administrator (assistant principal, dean of instruction or curriculum specialist) that is an advocate for various school stakeholders. I want to be a school leader who not only is aware of the issues that affect my future staff and students, but extremely knowledgeable in how I can be of assistance to

both parties in order to reach a common goal. With that said, I am flexible to any administrative opportunities I encounter, because all leadership positions come with great importance and responsibility.
