VOLTAGE TRANSFORMER
Purpose:

TEST PROCEDURE

These provisions apply to electro-magnetic voltage transformer. The purpose of this transformer is for measuring and protective relays. Test equipment: Megger Multimeter Polarity Tester Phase Sequence

Insulation resistance test. Turns ratio test. Polarity test. a) Checking of Insulation Resistance: Using a Megger, check the value of the phase to earth and phase to phase insulation. When checking the phase to earth insulation only the earth terminal block terminal block of the winding being check are to be open. When checking the phase to phase insulation only the two earth terminal block of the winding being check are to be open. b) Ratio Test: Before energizing to check the ratio of voltage transformer. Connect 3 phase voltage to the primary side of the transformer and check the secondary voltage according to the calculated ratio. After energizing the voltage transformer for the first time the secondary voltage are to be measured in the marshalling kiosk. c) Polarity Test: The check is made by connecting a battery, having predetermined polarity,

for a short period between the transformer primary terminal and earth, at the same time as the polarity of the current, induced in the secondary, is checked with the aid of directionally sensitive ammeter.
