Describe Goal: I will improve my knowledge regarding food safety. I chose to improve my knowledge of food safety because it was a topic that I thought I was well versed in, but have discovered that I need to learn more about it. Food safety is important content for me to teach in addition to being important knowledge for the safety of my students, family, and self. --

In included the certificate I received for passing the food safety scipack.

I learned that it is often difficult to find the time to expand your content knowledge, but I know that it is important to do so and the NSTA site provides great resources, such as sci packs to do that. I will continue to learn and grow as a teacher and strive to increase my content knowledge any time I have the means and the opportunity to do so.

Goal: Electromagnetic Spectrum

Describe Goal: I will increase my knowledge of the electromagnetic spectrum. I vaguely remember briefly discussing the electromagnetic spectrum in my high school science class. It is a very interesting topic that would be fun for students to learn and I would like to increase my knowledge of it. --

Concerning Experience: Concerning Effectiveness: I included a written response to the podcast about the electromagnetic spectrum discussing the information that I learned by watching this podcast. By accomplishing this goal, I have expanded my scientific knowledge slightly, making me a more effective teacher than before I accomplished this goal. This activity has been a great reminder of the need to keep learning as a teacher. I plan to encounter new material, refresh my memory on material that may be more familiar to me, and discuss this material with others to keep growing as a teacher.

Concerning Experience: Concerning Effectiveness: Concerning Future: This evidence is the video I created for the Subject Matter Challenge using iMovie and images and videos from public domain sites that are free to use, share, and/or modify. I learned how to find materials that are free to use, share and/or modify which is important for all teachers. This is outlined in the terms of fair use. This experience has made me aware of resources that are available to me as well as more familiar with, and better able to use, iMovie to create videos.
