BROACASTING DEAD

An Original Screenplay By Holly Copella

FIRST DRAFT

FADE IN: EXT. BEACH HOUSE-- NIGHT We see the exquisite beach house on stilts partially on the sand. The near full moon is steadily vanishing behind the thick storm clouds. Thunder rumbles lowly in the distance. The lights are on within the beach house. Several people can be seen on the deck drinking and socializing. Music and laugher are only second to the deafening sounds of the waves crashing to shore. A man, PHIL, walks along the surf carrying a bottle of champagne. He takes a drink and continues to stagger along the surf. The sounds of the party are upbeat and joyous. INT. BEACH HOUSE Several people maneuver around one another with their drinks. The man at the center of attention in the living room is a man in his mid fifties, HARRIS CHANDLER. The group surrounding him laughs at something he says. He puffs on his cigar and blows out smoke with a grin. A meek looking woman in her early fifties, DARCY CHANDLER, stands quietly behind Harris, not really part of the crowd. A man in his forties looks to Darcy and smiles warmly. He's TODD FORD. TODD (to Darcy) I bet you have plenty of stories about our illustrious leader, Mrs. Chandler. Darcy looks up and appears delighted to be included in the conversation. She smiles warmly. DARCY Well, I-Harris turns his head and glares at Darcy. Her head immediately lowers and her smile vanishes. DARCY I really can't say I do-Harris turns back to the crowd and smiles brightly. HARRIS Darcy isn't much of a socializer.

Todd frowns and watches Darcy turn and walk away. EXT. DECK -- NIGHT INDY MORELAND, a woman in her early twenties stands along side a woman in her mid-twenties, MELANIE LAMARE. Both women are dressed in casual evening dresses and sip their champagne. We see Phil walking along the beach toward the rocks and a heavily shaded area. INDY (nods to Phil) What's with Phil? MEL After his promotion, his wife took the kids and moved back with her mother. INDY (gasps) That's awful. Why'd she wait until he got a promotion? MEL (eyes Indy) More money in child support. INDY That's low. Goes back to my original theory. Rich people can never be happy. MEL Ever notice the only people who make those comments are always penniless? INDY You like to joke, Mel, but money only ruins good men. I haven't met one wealthy man I can tolerate. MEL I wish I knew more than one.

INDY Mr. Chandler is your prime example. The man has no respect for women, and that includes his wife. MEL Now there's an abused woman. But old Harris gave you a promotion. Seems a bit out of character for him, considering you didn't even sleep with him to get it. Everyone thinks you did, you know. INDY Most would know me better. MEL Yeah, but it makes for great gossip. (studies her) Do you suppose Harris actually thinks you're the better man for the job? INDY Mr. Chandler may look down upon women, but I know he respects me. He tried to belittle me just once, and I gave it right back to him. Ever since then, he's been pleasant toward me. MEL I think he wants to get you in bed. INDY Why in the world would he want me? He has Jolene. Both Mel and Indy look across the deck to a handsome man, KELSY HARGROVE, and a beautiful woman, JOLENE MARCEL. Jolene wears a revealing dress that shows her cleavage. She giggles and playfully touches Kelsy's arm. MEL (looks back to the beach) How long do you suppose it took to create that bubbly image?

INDY I've never known a woman who was so hot and cold. She flirts with every man to get her way and bites heads off anything female. MEL You can relax. I don't think she has her attention fixed on Kelsy. Indy studies the couple through the crowd on the deck. INDY I find it hard to believe he even talks to her. MEL He's a man. He's helpless to the silicone. (eyes the couple) Have you ever thought about telling him you like him? INDY That must be obvious by the way I stumble over myself when I'm around him. MEL Still--you should tell him. At least then you'll know where you stand. Why don't you go over there and talk to him? INDY I think I'd rather play the game awhile longer. I'm not ready to be crushed. Mel looks back across the deck. MEL I don't believe it. Indy looks in the same direction. We see Harris talking to Jolene in a close huddle. Kelsy's no where to be seen.

MEL In his own home yet. Jolene smiles warmly then walks down the steps to the sand. She doesn't appear on the beach. Both women look around. MEL Did she just go under the deck? Indy shrugs. Harris approaches them. HARRIS (to Mel) I hope you'll be able to get up for your morning broadcast. MEL I think I'll make it. HARRIS (to Indy) You'll have those reports on my desk first thing in the morning, I trust. INDY They'll be there tonight. I'm stopping by the station to pump some coffee into Dane. HARRIS If you're after him, you're barking up the wrong tree. He's not interested in girls, you know? INDY Yes, I know. I love a good challenge. HARRIS How come you girls are drawn to queers? INDY There are worse things than being gay. Harris stares at her a moment longer then walks away. He walks down the opposite stairs and seems to vanish.

MEL Oh, my God--they're going to get it on beneath the deck. INDY Now that I'm completely sickened, I think I'd better go. MEL (stops her) Don't leave me here alone. I'm liable to fall for some average guy with a below standard line. You don't want me to wake up in the morning hating myself, do you? INDY You can always go home alone. MEL Where's the fun in that? Indy attempts a smile and shakes her head. She walks back into the house. INT. DINING ROOM Indy approaches Darcy at the buffet table. Darcy fills the bowls and trays in silence. INDY Good night, Mrs. Chandler. DARCY Are you leaving already? INDY It's already past my bedtime. I have to be in the office by six tomorrow. DARCY Thanks for coming, Indy. Where's Harris? Does he know you're leaving?

INDY Mr. Chandler's--attending to business. He'll understand. DARCY Drive carefully on that road. It's tricky at night, and they're calling for a terrible storm. INDY That's why I'm leaving now. I hope to beat the storm. I'll be careful. EXT. BACK ROAD -- NIGHT We see the blazer travel along the dark, winding road. The rain pours down. Lightning lights the sky. INT. CAR Indy turns on the radio and strains to see out the windshield. DANE TUCKER'S voice can be heard over the radio. DANE (V.O.) The weather service has issued a severe storm watch until three a.m., so if you're out there on the road--heaven help you. INDY I knew I could count on you, Dane. DANE (V.O.) I'd like to dedicate this next song to all you people out there who promised to bring coffee to the broadcast booth. The Great Dane's wondering where you are tonight. INDY I'm on my way--cut me a break. Indy looks into her rear view mirror. We see a ski mask and eyes staring back at her. Indy's eyes widen with surprise and horror. We see a knife. Indy cries out and slams on the brakes.

EXT. BACK ROAD -- NIGHT The blazer swerves along the sharp, wet curve. INT. CAR Indy struggles to stop the car from sliding. The man's thrown across the back seat. Indy looks to the road before her. We see the trees approaching in the headlights. EXT. FOREST -- NIGHT The blazer strikes a tree roughly, smashing the entire front end of the car. INT. CAR Indy clings to the wheel and looks to the deflated airbag. She looks around the front seat then to the rear view mirror. We see someone slowly pulling themselves up. Indy fights her seat belt, releases it, and jumps from the blazer. EXT. FOREST -- NIGHT Indy runs past her smashed blazer, now completely in the woods and runs through the forest area. She looks around to get her bearings. The road is the opposite direction. A man in black climbs from the blazer. Indy gasps and continues deeper into the woods. We hear someone behind her while she runs. She looks back. They're no longer following. She slows down and looks before her. The ground gives away in the rain and she slides down the muddy hillside. EXT. STONES BEACH -- NIGHT Indy slowly picks herself up and looks around the beach. The storm rages. Thunder and lightning can be seen and heard. Waves crash fiercely against the shore. Indy hurries along the beach in the direction of Chandler's beach house. Indy continues to hurry along the beach, now completely drenched. She looks behind her every so many feet. We see the lights of a beach house just up ahead. The exterior lights are out, but there's someone standing on the deck near the exterior wall. Indy slows a moment and stares. We realize it's not Chandler's house. Indy continues toward the house and approaches the deck. We see a man in his early thirties, ROLAN STONE, sitting on the deck by a small table drinking from a brandy snifter. He looks at her with some surprise then stands.

EXT. DECK -- NIGHT Indy walks up the deck steps and stops at the top. She rubs her wet, chilled arms as rain continues to drench her. INDY Could I use your phone? Rolan stares at her a moment, still surprised. STONE Where on earth did you come from? INDY A very steep ledge. My car ran off the road--it's in a tree. He casually pulls open the sliding glass door and extends his hand toward the house. Indy nervously approaches him and enters the house. INT. SUN ROOM Indy steps into the sun room. The lights flicker and go out. The outline of the room can still be seen. We hear the door close behind her. Indy quickly and nervously turns. Rolan walks past her. STONE Right on cue. The power always goes out during a storm. The phone's on the table near the wall. I'll get you a towel and a flashlight. Indy watches him leave the room through the doorway. There's a glowing light coming from a fireplace in another room. Indy hurries to the barely visible table. She picks up the phone. It's dead. INDY Damn it-Indy hangs up the phone. Rolan returns a moment later with a flashlight. STONE Did you get your party? INDY The phone's out.

STONE Typical. That's the second thing to go. INDY I really need to get the police. STONE Was there another vehicle involved? Indy appears slightly disoriented. INDY Huh? Oh, no. (hesitates) There was a man--following me. Stone stares a moment longer then approaches the glass doors. He looks outside. We see the rain striking the door harshly. Stone locks the door then turns to face her. STONE He won't last long out there. I wouldn't worry much over it. You'll be safe here. When the storm passes, I'll take you to town. Fair enough? Indy shivers and slowly nods. EXT. HARRISS BEACH HOUSE-- NIGHT We see the completely dark beach house. One small light seems to travel the house. The storm rages. INT. BEACH HOUSE Todd carries the flashlight through the crowd of people. Some are wet, most are concerned. We hear the raging wind and beating rain. TODD Okay, nobody panic. It's just a power outage. Mrs. Chandler went to locate some candles. Everyone's alright. The deck door opens. We see Jolene enter the room while shivering. Her expression is horrified. Everyone looks at her.

JOLENE Harris is dead--I think he had a heart attack. There are several gasps around the room. Jolene turns away from the group. INT. STONE'S BATHROOM Indy dries her face and hair by candlelight and looks at herself in the mirror. She has several scrapes on her cheek and arms. She sets the towel aside and takes the candle. She wears an oversized, button shirt. INT. LOUNGE Indy enters the lounge in her bare feet. She sets the candle down. The fireplace provides enough light to brighten the entire room. Stone stands behind the bar and pours two drinks. Indy walks toward the fireplace and studies the objects along the wall. We see several swords, knives, axes, and creepy paintings. Stone approaches her from the bar with the two glasses and extends one to her. STONE My great aunt was an artist. Indy accepts the glass and stares at the creepy painting of spirits coming from a fire. INDY A bit macabre. STONE (throaty chuckle) Yes, I like them. He indicates the nearby sofa. Indy uncertainly moves to the sofa. Stone sits on the opposite end of the sofa and faces her. STONE I'm afraid I've never met the Chandler's. I only visit here a few weeks every year. I'm not even sure where the nearest house is. I've walked along these beaches often and don't recall seeing another house.

INDY It can't be more than three miles. I wasn't on the road long when-(hesitates) There was a man in the back seat of my car. STONE Oh, I see. So this is why you ran off of the road. Someone you knew?

INDY I don't think so. He was wearing a mask. STONE Probably someone from the party. INDY A bit risky--I work with most of those people. STONE Even more odd that some total stranger would choose a remote location--and to risk that the person using that vehicle would be traveling alone. I don't mean to frighten you, but I don't think it was just by chance that he was hiding in your car. He knew you, knew you'd be alone. Indy appears concerned. She nervously drinks from her glass and sinks into her own thoughts. She looks back at Stone. INDY I should get back to Chandler's house. STONE I think, under the current weather conditions, you'd be better remaining here awhile longer. You don't need to be so nervous. I don't bite.

INDY It's difficult to relax after what I've been through tonight. How can you be so calm? That guy could be outside your house right now. STONE That would be rather distressing--I wouldn't know which weapon to use on him. INDY What exactly do you do for a living, Mr. Stone? STONE Please, call me Rolan. Indy shifts nervously then attempts a smile. STONE I have extensive hobbies. As for what I do--well, that depends on the situation. INDY In other words, you're an eccentric rich guy with too much time on his hands. STONE You could say that. INDY That explains a lot. STONE Would you like to see the dungeon? I'm very proud of it. INDY I, uh, think I'll pass--as fascinating as it sounds. STONE Forgive me. I keep forgetting that ladies are frightened by dungeons.

INDY Places don't frighten me, Mr. Stone. It's people that worry me. STONE I have this strange feeling I've just been insulted. INDY How about checking the phones again. Stone casually leans back and lifts up the phone from the table behind him. He listens then hangs it up. STONE Still dead. INDY Please, don't use that term. STONE I don't entertain too often. Does it show? INDY Really, it's not necessary for you to entertain me. I'd prefer to just rest. STONE Oh, yes, of course. How insensitive of me. Would you like me to play something on the piano for you? Indy looks across the room to the piano at the far end. Not only would it create distance, but it would keep him from engaging in conversation. INDY Yes, that would be nice. Stone springs from his seat and approaches the piano. He sits on the bench and plays a soft, romantic tune. He's good. Indy picks up a photo album from the coffee table. She glances back at Stone, and then flips thought the album. Thunder cracks loudly several times. Stone changes the tune to classical rock with a tempo to match the emotion of the storm.

Indy sets the album down and looks back to Stone thrashing on the piano keys like a concert pianist. Indy turns on the sofa, rests her arm on the back, and places her head to her knuckles. INDY You play well. STONE My mother forced me to take lessons. She wanted to be lulled by Bach, so I rocked her with Meatloaf. Ironically, she never made me play again. INDY I bet you were a handful. The music becomes more gentle. Indy rests her head on her arm and listens to the music. Her eyes slowly close. EXT. HARRISS BEACH HOUSE-- NIGHT We see Chandler's beach house. Police lights flash blue and red. We see the police cars parked on the sand near the back porch. One officer shines his flashlight under the tall deck while the second officer keeps everyone back and on the deck. The officer beneath the deck approaches the steps and looks to the crowd. OFFICER What exactly happened? Why is he naked? All eyes shift to Jolene standing near the glass doors. She appears horrified then turns and runs into the house. Darcy looks from the doorway back to the officer. She looks down then turns away. Kelsy approaches the officer. KELSY Harris was with the young woman right before he died. She thinks he had a heart attack. OFFICER The coroner's on his way. We'll need the names of everyone here tonight, just as a precaution, in case we need to contact you further.

The officer on the beach looks around the area and looks to the heavy surf. He stops and stares. We see something in the water against the shore. He takes a few steps forward then stops with a look of surprise. OFFICER Over here! The first officer turns, looks to the object in the surf, and then follows the second officer. As the officers approach, we see a man's body wash onto shore then float back out several feet. Both officers run into the water and drag him out. They turn him over on the beach. We see it's Phil with a clean slice along his throat. Both officers look at one another. INT. LOUNGE -- MORNING Indy wakes to warm sunlight upon her. She opens her eyes and realizes she's lying against Stone, who's propped in the corner of the sofa. He has one arm around her shoulder, and he's gently stroking her hair with the other. Indy quickly pulls herself into a sitting position then immediately cringes from stiffness caused by the accident. Stone lowers his feet to the floor and sits up straight with a warm smile. STONE Good morning. How are you feeling? INDY Sore. STONE Sorry about the sofa. I would've carried you to one of the bedrooms, but I was afraid I'd wake you. You were sleeping so peacefully. INDY Have you checked the phones? She hurries to the end table phone and picks it up. STONE They came back on sometime after you fell asleep. I didn't want to disturb you. INDY You should've woke me.

Indy punches in several numbers. STONE I'd already called a garage for your vehicle. I even called the police for you--asked them to stop by around nine this morning. Figured that'd give us enough time for breakfast and for you to freshen up. (stands) I put your things in the wash when the power came back on. INDY (hangs up phone) You did all that? STONE I don't sleep much. Why don't you freshen up? Your clothing are in the bathroom for you. Sorry--I didn't iron them. I don't like to iron. While you're doing that, I'll make us some breakfast. INDY Don't trouble yourself. STONE No trouble at all. I make waffles to die for. I took some cooking lessons a few years back. INDY Really, it's not necessary. STONE Coffee? INDY (gives up) That'll be fine.

INT. BEDROOM Indy dries her hair while changed back into her dress from last night. There's a knock on the door. STONE Are you decent? INDY Yes, come in. The door opens. Stone pushes a rolling, wooden cart into the room with a silver covered plate on it along with flowers in a vase. STONE I thought room service would be more fun. Indy hides her annoyance and disbelief. Indy approaches him and the tray with two cups of coffee and orange juice on it. He removes the lid to reveal Belgium waffles with strawberries and whipped cream on them. INDY I'm glad you didn't go to any trouble. STONE (sits on the bed) If you're too upset to leave, you can stay awhile longer. INDY I think I'll be okay. Stone pats the bed beside him. Indy reluctantly sits down and drinks some coffee. STONE Despite what happened to you, I really enjoyed your company. INDY I appreciate your taking me in. STONE You're welcome back anytime. Day or night.

INDY Perhaps the next time I'm being chased by a psycho killer, we can do it again. STONE Pity that only happens three or four times in a lifetime. Would you like to go out sometime? I know some great restaurants I haven't been kicked out of yet. INDY I'd like to, Mr. Stone-STONE Rolan-INDY Rolan--but I don't think I could handle the stress of dating you right now. I've recently been promoted, and there's a lot to prepare-(shuts her eyes) Damn it--the report. (opens her eyes) I hope Harris understands, considering the circumstances. I anticipate being very busy for a long time. STONE (stands) I understand. Maybe I'll just stop by with lunch some time. You have to eat some time during the day. INDY We'll see--okay. EXT. RADIO STATION -- DAY We see the lower level of the building is a funeral home. The upper half is the radio station and offices. The small island town seems peaceful.

INT. MAIN LOBBY We see Indy hurry into the small foyer and head toward the old, gate style elevator. It's obvious she's late for work. A neatly dressed man in his fifties, SIMMONS, hurries to catch up to her. Indy attempts to avoid him, but the elevator holds her up. SIMMONS Miss Moreland-INDY (hits the button/turns) Good morning, Mr. Simmons. SIMMONS Miss Moreland, I have a funeral in less than an hour and my intercom is playing some wild rock music. Mr. Chandler promised me you'd take care of the problem. INDY We've called an electrician. He claims there's nothing wrong with our electrical work or our frequency. He thinks it might be you old radio system. SIMMONS That makes no never mind. I have grieving loved ones coming to pay respects to the departed and I can't have them listening to all that mindless screaming. INDY We can't stop broadcasting, Mr. Simmons. Try filtering through from the radio into the intercom. You'll need to have someone check your system. The elevator arrives. Indy enters and presses her button. SIMMONS Maybe I'll try having your station removed from the building!

The doors shut. INT. THIRD FLOOR Indy gets out of the elevator and walks along the hallway past the receptionist desk and several offices. Mel hurries after her from the break room area. MEL Indy--Indy, where have you been all weekend? INDY I've had the worst weekend of my life. MEL I tried calling you. Your machine wouldn't even pick up. I stopped by your place, but your blazer wasn't there. INDY I had to disconnect the answering machine, and I wasn't about to answer the phone. (walks down the hall) My blazer's history. MEL You wrecked your car? (follows) Haven't you heard? INDY Heard what? MEL Harris had a heart attack and died at the party, and they found Phil in the surf. He'd been murdered. INDY Harris and Phil--dead?

MEL They'd ruled Harris' death natural, but Phil was clearly murdered. INDY Murdered? Oh, my God, I have to talk to the police. MEL They're looking for you. INDY Looking for me? Why? MEL They'd questioned everyone at the party. They found out you'd left early. Indy rushes into her office. INT. INDY'S OFFICE Indy tosses her purse onto the desk and grabs the phone. Mel hurries in after her. MEL You're acting awfully strange. INDY A man attacked me from the back of my blazer. I may have seen the actual killer. MEL Oh, my God! Why didn't you call me? INDY I really couldn't talk about it yesterday. Now I have some lunatic calling me and sending flowers. My apartment has more flowers than the funeral home downstairs. MEL The killer's sending you flowers?

Indy groans and shakes her head. INT. INDY'S OFFICE -- MOMENTS LATER The detective shuts his notebook and approaches the door while Indy leans back in her chair with her hand over her eyes. DETECTIVE Your story checks out with the one you filed yesterday morning. Too bad you didn't actually see the guy's face. We'll let you know if we have any further questions. INDY Thank you, Detective. He gives a slight nod and leaves the room. A man in his late twenties, DANE, enters the office and shuts the door behind him. DANE Well, he didn't arrest you. INDY Of course, he didn't. I was nearly killed Saturday night by the same psycho. My luck, I'm taken in by another psycho. Only me. DANE Was he cute? INDY It doesn't matter. DANE It might to me. I like them a little off the wall. INDY How do they know Harris wasn't killed also? Ironic that he suddenly has a heart attack around the same time Phil's murdered.

DANE No--Harris died while having a little inter office fling with Jolene. He died during it. Found him naked and everything. INDY Oh--must've been a double blow for poor Mrs. Chandler. DANE Wonder what will happen to the radio station? If Mrs. Chandler sells-INDY The investors will buy her out, I'm sure. There's a knock on the door. Both look to the open doorway. Mel smirks from the doorway then enters and steps aside. MEL This just came for you. A delivery man enters carrying a vase of two dozen, long stemmed roses. Indy rolls her eyes and groans. The man sets them on the desk and leaves. Indy covers her eyes and shakes her head. Mel approaches the flowers and removes the card. MEL I wonder who they're from? INDY He's going to drive me insane. Dane and Mel read the card. Both look at Indy. MEL/DANE (together) I'll take him. MEL You never did get to tell me the rest of the story about this guy.

INDY Nothing happened, and I can't get rid of him. That's the rest of the story. MEL (reads) My dearest, Indy--looking forward to another evening. Love, Stone. DANE (looks at Indy) His name is Stone--I'm in love. MEL You must've done something. INDY (stands) I didn't. The guy's a psycho. This isn't funny. (snatches the card) I may have to get a restraining order. Indy suddenly freezes while staring at the doorway. She appears surprised and attempts a tiny smile. INDY Mrs. Chandler-Both Dane and Mel turn around. We see a more beautiful version of Darcy. She's wearing fashionable clothing, her hair is done, and she's wearing make-up. She has an electric look about her. DARCY I don't mean to interrupt. I just wanted to thank you for the flowers this morning. MEL Oh, you're welcome, Mrs. Chandler. How are you?

DARCY I'm fine. The police ruled Harris's death accidental--heart attack. The funeral's tomorrow. I'm having him cremated in the parlor below. Dane gets a strange look then glances at Indy. Indy ignores his look. INDY If there's anything at all we can do, please don't hesitate to ask. DARCY Actually, there is something you can do for me. INDY Anything. DARCY I've decided to hold onto Harris's properties, including the radio station. (to Indy) I know you weren't his assistant for very long, Indy, but I was hoping you could help show me the ropes--I don't want to ask Jolene for any favors. She'd done enough of those for Harris. Dane smirks and looks away. Mel glares at him. INDY Of course, Mrs. Chandler. I'd be happy to help you learn operations. Whenever you're feeling up to it. DARCY I knew I could count on you. We'll start first thing tomorrow. I have a few things to do for the funeral, and then I have to stop by the car dealership and pick up my new car. It's been a real busy day. All three stare at her with odd looks of surprise.

DARCY I'd better go back downstairs and see how it's going. (points around the office) See what you can do with the station. It's so drab. Maybe some curtains and new furniture in the lobby. Darcy gives a cheerful wave then leaves. All three stare after her with their mouths hanging open. DANE It's terrible to see how broken up she is. MEL The man was a bastard. I'm sure he treated her like shit. DANE If it hadn't been for Jolene, I'd swear she had something to do with his death. MEL Haven't even planted the old man, and she's already buying a new car. INDY Hope I'm never loved as much as Harris Chandler. INT. CHANDLER'S OFFICE Indy and Darcy enter the spacious corner office with its drab blinds and bare white walls. There's a desk, chairs, and an old bookcase within the room. Darcy smiles while looking around the office then falls into the chair with glee. DARCY This room needs help. (to Indy) So what do I do first?

INDY First you check your mail and voice messages then your e-mail. You'll need to respond to the important ones. DARCY Shouldn't we have coffee to start our morning? Maybe bagels? INDY Usually Jolene gets them for Harris, but she called out again today. DARCY Do you blame her? A man dies on top of her. That's bound to throw her off a little. (stands) Let's get some coffee. INDY There should be some coffee in the break room. INT. BREAK ROOM The tiny room is drab and with old carpet and furniture. Darcy makes a face. DARCY This isn't very relaxing. Right after the funeral, I'm calling my home decorator over to renovate this place. (pulls Indy toward the door) We'll have coffee delivered. Indy uncertainly follows Darcy. INT. CHANDLER'S OFFICE Indy sits on the edge of the desk and shows Darcy how to operate the computer. Darcy squeals with joy.

DARCY This is so exciting. I've never turned on a computer before. A man measures the room and writes things on paper. DARCY (to decorator) Oh, Paul--when you're finished with the offices and the lobby, measure up the break room. It really needs something. PAUL Yes, Mrs. Chandler. Paul leaves and there's a knock on the open door. Indy looks up and stares at Kelsy. Kelsy enters the office. INDY (stands) Hey, Kelsy. DARCY Oh, Kelsy--look, I'm using a computer. KELSY That's wonderful, Mrs. Chandler. DARCY I wish everyone would call me Darcy. I hate formality. What can I do of you, Kelsy? KELSY (sets a folder on her desk) Just a few more deals from advertisers. You need to look them over and give your final approval. DARCY Oh, wonderful! You're such a hard worker. There's another knock on the door. Todd enters the office and tosses papers onto the desk.

TODD Mrs. Chandler, these were just given to me by some guy named Paul. This company can't afford this sort of expense for renovations. DARCY Why not? Todd looks to Kelsy and Indy then back to Darcy. TODD Could we speak privately? DARCY (to Kelsy) Would you please excuse us? Kelsy nods and leaves the room. Indy's about to leave. DARCY No, Indy. You stay. Indy pauses, shuts the door, and then returns to the desk. TODD This company barely makes a profit. What sponsors we have don't bring in hardly any profit. You're asking to invest money into a sinking business. There's no money in the budget for a new coffee pot, let alone all these other renovations. DARCY Then I'll pay for them myself. TODD Mrs. Chandler, as your estate accountant, I'm afraid I must tell you that most of your husband's money is tied in investments and real estate. You don't have enough to purchase that new car, let alone all this extra stuff.

DARCY That's impossible. I have three hundred thousand dollars in the savings account. TODD Your husband's partners want to sell their share. If you don't want to sell this place, you'll have to buy them out. We're looking at five hundred thousand dollars. DARCY Where am I going to get an extra two hundred thousand? TODD That's five hundred thousand each. Both Darcy and Indy are completely surprised. DARCY There must be some mistake. I'd better meet with them and straighten this out. TODD It's no mistake. The radio station makes little profit. Harris was supposed to let people go months ago, but didn't. The partners don't want this bad investment any longer. When Harris died, it made the decision for them. If you don't buy them out, you'll have to sell the place. They're giving you two weeks. Darcy stares at Todd with the same defeated expression she wore around Harris. Her innocent look turns harsh. DARCY You inform them that I'd like to speak to them immediately. We'll see about this. TODD I strongly suggest you don't speak to them. They're not exactly reasonable men.

DARCY (stands abruptly) Neither am I! Darcy appears to consider her last comment but maintains her angry appearance. TODD Yes, Mrs. Chandler. Todd leaves the room. Darcy begins to tremble and sinks into her seat. DARCY Now I'm really in it. (to Indy) What should I do now? INDY I'd suggest coming up with seven hundred thousand dollars really fast. DARCY Where will I get that kind of money? INDY Find another partner? Darcy shakes her head then glances at her watch. She quickly stands. DARCY Oh, it's time for the funeral. (to Indy) You're coming, aren't you? INDY We're all coming. Mel's going to put the music on automatic and join us for a little while too. DARCY You've all been so wonderful to me. I promise I'll take care of everything here at the station.

INT. RADIO STATION LOBBY We see the entire lobby is covered with flowers and balloons. Darcy and Indy enter the lobby and look around with surprise. Dane sits behind the receptionist desk and eats chocolates from a box. He closes the box, stands, and extends them to Indy. DANE These came for you. Imported from Germany. INDY Take them. Dane opens the box just as quickly as he'd shut it. DARCY (to Indy) What's with all the flowers and balloons? DANE Some rich kook has a fatal attraction for Indy. Indy glares at Dane. His smile fades. He pops another chocolate into his mouth. DARCY Mel mentioned you were stuck at some guy's house. This is the same one? INDY It's really a long story, but now this guy won't leave me alone. DARCY (removes card) Wish Harris would've sent me flowers once in awhile. (reads the card) Rolan Stone? (to Indy) You've actually met Rolan Stone? He's the one after you?

INDY Yes--why? Do you know him? DARCY He's our neighbor. Harris was trying to get him to invest for years. Oh, Indy-you have to introduce me INDY Darcy, he's a nut. If I contact him, I'll never get rid of him. DARCY Don't you see? He can save the radio station. If he'd join me, as my partner, we won't have to sell or find the money. INDY Believe me, you don't want him as a partner. DARCY I can't exactly pick and choose, Indy. I have just one shot to make this work. If I have to sell, everyone here could lose their jobs. We hear a record being scratched--then silence. Everyone within the room stops and looks at them. Indy looks around with discomfort. DARCY This is your ass too. You need him as much as I do. INDY I'll see what I can do. DARCY Oh, thank you, Indy. You're a lifesaver. INDY I'll arrange a meeting, Darcy. That doesn't mean he's going to give you a million dollars.

DANE No, but he'll give it to you, Indy. INDY Don't you have anything better to do? DANE No, I'm off duty. INT. INDY'S OFFICE Indy shuts her office door and approaches her desk. There are several baskets and vases of flowers around the office. She removes one of the cards, pulls it from the envelope, and flops down in her chair. She dials the number on the card. The phone rings twice then is picked up. STONE (V.O.) I'm not home. Leave a message, if you must. Indy sighs with relief. The machine beeps. INDY Hello, Rolan. It's Indy-The phone's suddenly picked up. Indy is slightly startled. STONE (V.O.) Indy--I'm so glad you called. INDY I'm sure. It would seem that you've sent every flower on the island to my office and apartment. We're a bit overrun with plant life at the moment. STONE (V.O.) I wasn't sure what your favorite flower was, so I thought I'd be safe and send them all. Do you like them? INDY They're--beautiful, Rolan, but I have no more room for anymore.

STONE (V.O.) Anything you ask. INDY The reason I called--my new boss, your neighbor wants to meet you. STONE (V.O.) He wants to meet me? Why? INDY She wants to discuss business with you. STONE (V.O.) Business? This is a business call? INDY Yes--I'm sorry if I'm bothering you. I'll understand if you're not interested. STONE (V.O.) I'll meet your boss for dinner around seven o'clock tonight at Oscar's to discuss business--on the condition that you join us. INDY I'll have to check with her first. It was her husband's funeral, and she may not be up too-Indy's door burst open. Darcy stands in the doorway motioning her approval vigorously. INDY I believe she accepts. STONE (V.O.) And you'll come? INDY Yes, I'll come along. Darcy jumps around happily

STONE (V.O.) Great. I'll see you around seven. Shall I send a limo? INDY Actually, it's less than a block. We can walk. STONE (V.O.) See you then. So long. INDY Bye. She hangs up the phone. Darcy continues to jumps around. DARCY This is fabulous, don't you think? INDY Wonder why I feel like I've just sold my soul? Darcy giggles. INT. RADIO STATION LOBBY Darcy and Indy walk through the dimly lit, flower filled lobby toward the main hallway beyond the glass doors. Two men enter, startling both. They are the partners, TANNER and WHIT. TANNER Mrs. Chandler? DARCY Yes? TANNER I'm Tanner and this is Whit--your partners. Todd gave us the message that you wanted to see us right away. We don't appreciate being called for like dogs.

DARCY Yes--well, I had intended to talk you into giving the business a couple of months, but then I decided--why would I want a couple of bastards for partners anyway. Good evening, gentlemen. You can show yourselves out. WHIT Do you have any idea who you're talking too? DARCY Yes, a couple of losers who wouldn't know potential when they see it. Darcy pushes past them and leaves the lobby. DARCY Come one, Indy. Indy flashes a tiny smile, and then hurries after Darcy. INT. OSCAR'S RESTAURANT Darcy and Indy enter the semi-elegant restaurant and look around. The place is more themed than elegant. There are nostalgic decorations on the walls from other countries. There are several people waiting for tables. A neatly dressed man approaches them without hesitation. HOST You must be Mrs. Chandler and Miss Moreland. Your party is waiting for you. Please follow me. They follow him with some confusion. INDY How did you know who we were? The pleasant man now walks alongside her with a broad grin and produces a well-drawn sketch of Indy. There's remarkable likeness. Indy looks to Darcy with a slight frown. Darcy smiles with excitement.

HOST He told me to take special care of you. INDY What's the going rate these days for special care? HOST We all have our little trade secrets. They approach a private table to the back with plenty of seclusion. Stone sees them approach. He sets his drink down, smiles, and stands. He approaches them. DARCY He's gorgeous! INDY He's creepy. Stone greets them and extends his hand to Indy. She reluctantly accepts his hand. STONE I'm grateful that you could join us. (kisses her hand/to Darcy) This must be Mrs. Chandler. Stone releases Indy's hand and extends his hand to Darcy. She presents her hand with a schoolgirl grin. DARCY Please, call me Darcy. Stone kisses her hand. Darcy giggles and blushes. STONE It's a pleasure. My sympathies about your husband. Darcy just nods. Stone releases Darcy's hand and pulls the chair out for her. Darcy is completely swept away. Her cheeks are a color they haven't been in a long time. Before Stone can turn, Indy helps herself to the seat beside Darcy. Stone hesitates then takes his seat. A waiter quickly approaches with a bottle of wine and shows it to him.

Stone barely glances at it and nods. The waiter pours each a glass. DARCY Oh--that's an excellent wine. STONE I'm trying to make a good impression. DARCY You succeed. Another waiter brings out appetizers and places them on the table. Darcy watches the special attention they're given. STONE While we're waiting for dinner, why don't we get this unpleasant business discussion out of the way? (smiles at Darcy) What's your proposition? DARCY My business partners are bailing out on me, and I'm in need of a new partner to buy them out. STONE My research shows that you own several businesses. Which one are you referring? DARCY The radio station. It's going to get off its feet just as soon as-STONE And what's the buy out amount? DARCY One million. STONE Just the three partners? Darcy nods.

STONE (to Indy) Let me ask you something, Indy. INDY What would you like to know? STONE Would becoming Mrs. Chandler's business partner hinder my chances for a relationship with you? INDY That's certainly to the point. STONE I won't consider any deal if it prevents us from going out. INDY It won't alter my decisions either way. STONE Good enough for me. (to Darcy) I'll have my lawyers draw up a contract in the morning, and I'll bring the check over in the afternoon. Of course, since I'm buying two thirds of the business, I would be two thirds owner. Indy appears horrified. DARCY Yes, of course. STONE We can discuss the details tomorrow. That's about my length for business talk for one evening. Stone looks at Indy. He smiles warmly. STONE Would you care to dance?

INDY I don't dance. STONE I could teach you. It's not difficult. INDY No--thanks. DARCY (stands) I'm sorry to be rude, Mr. Stone, but it's been a rough day, and I think I need to go home and rest. Stone stands and extends his hand to her. Indy stands also. STONE Yes, of course. How insensitive of me. DARCY No. It's not you. When I saw that pork disk pass, it made me think of Harris. STONE Was it his favorite dish? DARCY No, just a pig. (looks to Indy) You stay and enjoy your meal, Indy. Indy stares at Darcy with a horrified look. Darcy smiles and lustfully fans herself and winks. Stone kisses Darcy's hand. STONE I look forward to working with you, Mrs. Chandler. DARCY Please, call me Darcy. Stone releases her hand and looks to the waiter standing within eye shot. The waiter hurries to their table.

WAITER Is something unsatisfactory, Mr. Stone? STONE Have a limo take the lady home. The waiter extends his elbow to Darcy. She giggles as he escorts her from the room. Indy watches her leave with a helpless look. Indy looks back at Stone and slowly sinks into her seat. The first waiter hurries to the table and clears the extra setting. The second waiter approaches with lit candles. STONE Our first date. INDY Let's get something straight, Stone. Stone tilts his head with a playful, innocent look. INDY Your business deal with Darcy doesn't include me. Don't think just because you're a partner that gives you the right to disrespect me. STONE Have I disrespected you? INDY All the gifts? I feel like you're trying to buy me. I don't like being controlled or smothered. STONE A little strong, eh? INDY Yeah, just a little. Stone removes a cell phone from his inner jacket and pushes a button. STONE (into the phone) Anderson--cancel that order from the flower shop.

Stone disconnects the call and replaces his phone. STONE If I come on too strong, just tell me to back off, and I'll back off. INDY Thank you. STONE Ironic--my doctor told me I had to be more outgoing or I'd drive myself insane. Guess I swayed too hard the other way. INDY Doctor? Like a psychiatrist? STONE My parents only wanted to be part-time parents. I'd gotten used to just me and Anderson, my butler. My socialization skills were nonexistent. I wanted no part of people. INDY Strange how those who are given every opportunity in life can have so much less than those of us without anything. STONE Well said. I'm certain you could teach me a lot about life. INDY You need to learn to slow down. You can experience it for yourself. STONE I guess now would be a bad time to ask you to Bermuda, huh?

INDY I have to be perfectly honest with you, Stone. I don't rush into relationships, and I don't sleep around. Whatever you're thinking, you can put it out of your head, because I'm not that kind of girl. STONE Hmm, well--not exactly the subject I was prepared to jump into tonight. I apologize for the misunderstanding. I wasn't implying that we sleep together in Bermuda--just go together. (pause) Not that I'm apposed to the idea, but it just wasn't what I'd meant. INDY You'd take me to Bermuda--and expect nothing in return? STONE Why's that funny? I think it's rather noble. INDY You're right. It is a noble gesture, but I'm not ready for Bermuda. INT. MAIN LOBBY Indy walks across the lobby while glancing at the front page of the paper. Simmons suddenly steps in front of her. She collides with him and jumps back a step. They stare at one another. SIMMONS Miss Moreland, someone mooned one of my staff this morning from the upstairs window. This has to stop. INDY What would you suggest? Shall I have everyone line up and expose their butts, so you can identify the guilty party?

SIMMONS This is serious! INDY You provoke them, Mr. Simmons. Every day you stop each and every one of us and complain about something. Most of your complaints are inappropriate. Frankly, we don't have a dress code for radio personalities, and it's really none of your business what they wear. So of course they're going to retaliate. (pause) Do you know why they're called radio personalities? Because they have personality. They're creative, and they can use if for good or evil. If you really want the charades to stop, I suggest you get together with the staff and work out your differences. SIMMONS Perhaps--after we return from vacation. Nothing better happen to the funeral home while we're gone. INDY What would possibly happen? SIMMONS I'd love to know how those balloons got into the morgue freezer last year. Indy fidgets as if remembering an incident. INDY I promise, nothing will happen while you're gone. If you'll excuse me. INT. RADIO STATION LOBBY Indy hurries into the flower filled lobby. Jolene sits behind her desk, plucking pedals from a flower with some hostility. She looks up with an all too familiar scowl.

JOLENE Mrs. Chandler's out new boss-INDY Where are the balloons that were here yesterday? JOLENE Dane left with them early this morning. INDY Damn it, Dane. DANE (V.O.) You barked, love. INDY (faces Dane) I want you to undo whatever prank you've done to Simmons. I mean it, Dane. DANE You're no fun. INDY I'm not kidding. DANE Okay, okay. I'll take care of it. They're not working today, and they'll be gone the entire week. I have a lot of time. Stone enters the lobby with a pleasant smile on his face. STONE Good morning, everyone. Jolene stands from behind the desk and checks over Stone. Dane's eyes widen. INDY I wasn't expecting you this early.

STONE (holds folder) These are for Darcy. I thought you'd give me a tour this morning, introduce me to the staff. JOLENE I'm not busy. I'd be happy to show you around. (extends hand) Jolene Marcel. STONE (shakes hand) Rolan Stone. INDY Mr. Stone is Darcy's new business partner. DANE (best DJ voice) Great Dane, evening radio personality. (shake hands) I'd be more than happy to give you a tour of the station. STONE I listen to your show on occasion in the late night. DANE You do? That's great. STONE (turns to Indy) I'd actually prefer the tour from Indy, since she'll be my assistant. INDY I'm Darcy's assistant. STONE She traded you for a refurnished break room.

INDY When did all of this happen? STONE I couldn't sleep last night, so I called her at three. DANE So who's Darcy's assistant? Kelsy enters the office wearing a new suit and carrying a new briefcase. His smile is beaming. KELSY Good morning! What a glorious day! Indy, Dane, and Jolene stare at Kelsy. He approaches Indy and hands her the name plate from her door. KELSY The movers forgot this. Indy takes her name plate and stares at it with surprise. Kelsy gives a cheerful smile and proceeds toward Darcy's office. INDY Where are they moving me? Would it have killed someone to let me know before now? STONE Actually, we'll be sharing the office behind the broadcast booth until our offices are renovated. INDY There's no office beyond the broadcast booth. That's a supply closet. STONE It's a bit small, but it's only temporary. Darcy races from her office with Kelsy in pursuit. Darcy snatches the folder from Stone and raises a pen to Indy.

DARCY Hold that thought. Darcy flips through the papers and signs the last one. She returns the folder to Stone then looks to Indy with a smile. DARCY Carry on-INDY (glares at Stone) How dare you plow in here and rearrange my life without even a courtesy call? STONE I didn't think it was a big deal. Darcy didn't give you up without a good fight. There's a promotion involved, she insisted. INDY You enjoy controlling people, don't you? You get some sort of charge out of rearranging people's lives to suit your own! DANE (mutters) Indy--new boss. INDY No--I don't care. (glares at Stone) It's low and underhanded the way you've used your money to manipulate Darcy to buy me. Stone stares at her with little emotion. She runs he fingers through her hair and looks away. STONE Are you finished tearing me apart in front of your co-workers?

INDY No, but I'll only be repeating myself. STONE I'm sorry. Indy looks away. STONE Please--look at me. This is hard enough. Indy looks at him. STONE I was wrong to assume you'd be happy about the move. I thought the promotion and a new office would make you happy, and I'm sorry you despise me so much that you don't want to work with me. This problem can be easily solved. You can go back with Darcy, and I'll take Kelsy. Of course, he'll get the promotion then. KELSY (approaches) Sounds great. I'll take the supply closet. STONE Is that what you want? INDY Everything's been moving so fast around here. I'm still recovering from the week-end. I don't think I can handle much more, I really don't. Dane approaches Indy and places an arm around her. DANE (to others) Okay, you've had your fun. We're going outside for some fresh air. Dane leads Indy from the lobby.

EXT. ROOF -- DAY We see the large roof with several skylights and a large garden planted around the walls. Dane and Indy sit on a fancy bench in the garden area. INDY Guess I sounded like a raving lunatic-whining about an office. DANE It's not about the office, everyone knew that. INDY Well--it is. I just put my mother's picture on the wall. I can't work in a closet with--with him. He's up to something evil. He's an unstoppable force. DANE No, that's not true. He's crazy about you. He's made that perfectly clear with the florist shop in your office. You can beat him. You did it with Harris. He treated women like simpletons, but he adored you. INDY He didn't adore me. He insulted me every chance he got. DANE And you gave it right back to him. He respected you. I think he even liked you. Why did he give you that promotion? INDY I hoped because he knew I was the best man for the job.

DANE And he did. You'll learn to handle Stone. You'll eventually play him like a song. Don't let him get to you like this. I swear, he's not even aware that what he did was inconsiderate until you set him straight. It'll get easier. INDY When did you become so knowledgeable of the human condition? DANE I've been reading those old magazines in the break room. I'm starting to memorize them. Indy smiles warmly. Dane holds her against him. INT. STAIRWELL Dane and Indy walk down the stairwell and pause by the partially open attic door. Dane pushes it open. INT. ATTIC We see the cleared, spacious attic with its many skylights. Some men work on the ceiling fans while others construct walls. Dane and Indy stand in the doorway. Dane shakes his head. DANE That's going to be some nice office space. (looks at Indy) Do you want to give up that? INT. BREAK ROOM Indy enters the break room. We see Stone and Kelsy having a cup of coffee. Indy slowly approaches them. KELSY Hey, Indy. Where've you been? Darcy was looking for you.

INDY Dane and I took a break in the garden. KELSY The guys have your things to return to your office, but they want you there to tell them where to put them. INDY Can I talk to Mr. Stone a moment, alone? KELSY Yeah, sure. I was just leaving. (to Stone) I'll meet with you later, Stone. Kelsy leaves. Stone frowns and looks away. STONE Guess I screwed up big time. INDY No. I overreacted. I'm sorry for what I said and especially that I exploded in front of my co-workers. I should consider myself lucky if I still have a job. STONE I sincerely doubt I'd get away with firing you. What you said is true. I just wanted you as my assistant, so we could work together--spend time together. Sad how desperate some people can be. INDY (sits on the table) Dane, my voice of reasoning, helped me see my own inability to deal with certain people. It's something I need to work on. STONE Am I that intolerable?

INDY Aggressive and persistent would be a better term. I'm willing to accept the position as your assistant, if you still want me to be. STONE Yes, of course--even knowing that it was for my own selfish reasons? INDY I think I can keep you in line. STONE I'm glad you're up to the challenge. I'll show you your future office. Add you ideas before they get too far. INT. CHANDLER'S OFFICE -- EVENING We see Darcy sitting behind her desk with Kelsy near her side. Whit and Tanner sit before the desk and sign several papers. Indy and Stone stand nearby. Todd collects the papers and hands a packet to Stone. TODD Congratulations--you're two thirds owner of WPUK. Tanner and Whit place their checks in their briefcases and stand. TANNER It's been a pleasure doing business, but we really must go. They all shake hands. Tanner and Whit leave the office. Todd places the papers in his briefcase and shuts it. TODD I'll take care of those papers first thing in the morning, Mrs. Chandler. Good night. There are several nods to him. Darcy stands with a bright smile.

DARCY This calls for a celebration. Where should we go? KELSY It's later than I hoped to stay. I really have to go home. I was supposed to meet my brother for a game. DARCY Oh, too bad. Kelsy gives a general nod and leaves the office. DARCY Just the three of us? INDY It's past my bedtime, but you two have a good time. Indy turns and leaves the office. INT. INDY'S OFFICE Indy enters the doorway to her old office. We see Kelsy picking up his briefcase. He turns and sees her. She surprises him. KELSY Indy, I wasn't expecting someone to be standing there. INDY I never got the chance to congratulate you on your new position. KELSY Well, thank you. INDY I'm sure Stone and Darcy will be having a lot of business lunches together. We'll probably be working together quite a bit.

KELSY I'm sure that'll be fun. Are you doing anything Friday night? INDY Not yet. KELSY Would you like to do something with me? Dinner, movie, or something? INDY That'd be great. KELSY I really have to run, but we can discuss it more tomorrow. Indy nods. Kelsy turns out the lights and shuts the door. INT. BROADCAST BOOTH -- EVENING Indy enters the broadcast booth with a bright grin on her face. She stops in the doorway. The booth is empty and the equipment is running on automatic. INDY Dane? She shuts the door. INT. HALLWAY Indy walks down the hallway toward the break room. She pauses by the window and looks outside. EXT. BACK LOT -- EVENING Indy's POV. The parking lot is fairly well-lit. We see several cars still in the lot, including Tanner's car. INT. HALLWAY Indy turns away from the window and nearly collides with JON, the security guard. Indy jumps with a startled scream.

JON Doesn't anyone ever go home anymore? INDY I was just on my way out and stopped to see Dane. Where'd he go? JON Search me. Wasn't my turn to watch him. Jon walks past her and continues into the break room. Indy frowns and shakes her head. Indy looks back outside. Indy turns her back to the window ledge and leans against the wall. Several minutes pass. Stone appears in the hallway and approaches her. STONE What are you still doing here? INDY (straightens) I wanted to talk to Dane, but he hasn't come back yet. STONE Would you like a ride home? INDY No, I can walk. It's only a couple of blocks. STONE At this time of night? I insist. If anything would happen to you, I'd never forgive myself. Dane strolls down the hall and slows when he sees them. DANE What's going on? INDY I was looking for you. I wanted to talk to you, but it can wait until morning.

DANE Oh, okay. Another double. I'll be here when you get in tomorrow. STONE You don't have a night DJ? DANE He's going to be out awhile. STONE I'm going to give Indy a ride home. I'll call you later if I'm still awake. I may be able to help you with the evening shift. DANE Please--call. It gets very boring at night. INT. APARTMENT BUILDING HALLWAY -- NIGHT Indy fumbles with her keys. Stone stands alongside her in the hallway. INDY You didn't have to walk me to my apartment. I can manage from here-really. STONE It's no trouble. I don't sleep most of the night anyway. INDY You should see a doctor about that. (unlocks the door) Thanks for driving me home. STONE Anything I can do, just ask. INDY If nothing else, you're consistent.

STONE There are worse things, you know. INDY Worse than what? STONE Worse things than going out with me. INDY Good night, Stone. Stone's eyes stay to Indy's mouth. He looks away then meets her gaze. STONE You have no idea what you do to me. INDY (opens her door) I know what I'm going to do to you if you don't back off. STONE Backing off. Indy shuts and locks the door. INT. MAIN LOBBY -- MORNING Indy walks through the lobby without any interruptions. The elevator doors open and Dane jumps out at her with a beastly snarl. Indy jumps with a startled scream. INDY Damn it, Dane! Don't do that! He pulls her into the elevator. INT. ELEVATOR Dane pushes the button and the doors close. DANE You aren't going to believe this.

INDY What? Why aren't you in the booth? Your shift isn't over yet. DANE Stone's covering for me. He came in late last night and wanted to learn the ropes. (waves his hands) That's not important though. The police came by this morning. They found Tanner's car in the marshland. Almost completely sunk. They haven't found his body yet. Indy stares with a horrified look. The doors open. INT. RADIO STATION LOBBY Indy and Dane approach the front desk. INDY He was just here last night. DANE I know. The police were here asking questions. That's how we heard. Ironically, Whit never made it home last night either. They stop by the front desk. Jolene ignores them and files her nails. DANE The police had Stone stop payments on his checks. INDY I don't believe this. They think someone may have killed them for those checks? Surely they must've known that wouldn't work. Darcy hurries from her office and approaches them.

DARCY Last night, I stayed late. Stone didn't want to go out for drinks, so we had one here. After he left, I went through some papers. Someone called the office, but they hung up when they heard my voice. I'm concerned. I think someone's following me. INDY What? DARCY I think whoever killed Phil killed Tanner and Whit. It's a conspiracy. Someone in this office is killing people. INDY We don't know Tanner and Whit are dead. There's certainly no indication that it would be someone from here. DARCY Phil was in charge of the radio station. He must've discovered something foul and was killed for it. Then Tanner and Whit leave here with a million dollar check. It had to be someone who knew our deals. INDY Calm down, Darcy. Listen to what you're saying. DARCY I need some coffee. Will you come with me? I'm nervous about being alone after last night. Indy nods. Dane follows them with a concerned look. INT. BATHROOM Indy enters the multi-stall bathroom. We hear a faint clunk. Indy jumps and looks around the bathroom. She releases a nervous breath and shakes her head. A stall door opens and she nearly collides with Mel.

Indy lets out a startled scream. Mel screams because of Indy's scream. MEL What? What's wrong? INDY Oh, it's Darcy. She thinks one of us is a psycho killer. She's been going on about it all day. She's starting to freak me out. MEL Yeah, she's really out there today. INDY I'm concerned about her. MEL What if she's right? INDY Don't you start too. MEL Did you ever consider that she may have killed Harris, and now she's feeling guilty about it? INDY Mel! MEL Think about it. INDY First off, Jolene was with Harris when he died, so it's illogical to think that anyone other than Jolene could have killed him. MEL I'm just joking with you. You're just as freaked out as she is.

INDY I was also almost killed once this week. There is a killer out there. MEL And it very easily could be someone from the radio station. Just remember that. INT. RADIO STATION LOBBY Jolene nestles against Stone while he looks over the day's mail. He eyes her then straightens. JOLENE I'm not busy this week-end. Maybe we could get together at your place. I'd love to see your dungeon. STONE Are you into medieval torture? JOLENE No, but I'll let you shackle me to the wall and make me scream. Stone looks at her with surprise. He's almost speechless. Indy stands in the doorway and glares at them. INDY I think I'm going to be ill the rest of the day. Jolene glares at Indy and returns to her desk without a word. Indy approaches Stone. INDY At least you've found someone more your speed. STONE Don't be ridiculous. My shackles are reserved only for you. INDY You're a sick man, Stone.

STONE Thank you. Have you seen Darcy today? INDY She drug Kelsy out to lunch. STONE Lunch--that sounds like a great idea. Where should we go? INDY I have a lot of work to do. Lunch is out of the question. STONE I'll order in. We can have lunch in our new office--that isn't finished yet. Todd enters the lobby and approaches Jolene. TODD Is Darcy in? JOLENE No, I'm afraid I don't know when she'll be back. STONE (to Todd) Something I can help you with, Todd? TODD No, it's about her personal finances. By the way, Mr. Stone, who does your personal accounts? STONE I do. TODD That's a bad practice. You should have a professional--

STONE I have an associates degree in accounting. (pulls Todd aside) As a matter of fact, I had a look at the books for the radio station. I want to discuss the profit margin with you. TODD There hasn't been a profit. This place just covers costs. STONE We'll need to discuss that, because there's an account that doesn't seem to belong. I want you to pull the books for the last five years. We have a lot of work to do--right after lunch. Todd stares at Stone then hurries from the room. INDY What's that about? STONE Someone's been skimming profits. INDY Aren't you giving him enough time to destroy the evidence? STONE No. I've already removed what I'd found. He's not going anywhere. INT. TODD'S OFFICE Todd hurries into his office and sits before his computer. He accesses different accounts. The screen comes up access denied. Todd pushes himself away from the desk with a horrified expression. He jumps to his feet, shuts his briefcase, and hurries from the office. INT. ATTIC

The office has walls, ceiling fans, and built in shelves, and a bathroom. Indy walks around the scattered tools and approaches a blanket spread on the floor. A bottle of whine chills in an ice bucket. There are two glasses and a single, red rose on the blanket. Indy picks up the rose and reads the note attached to it. The note reads--Better? Indy smiles and sits on the blanket. EXT. BACK LOT -- AFTERNOON Todd opens the door and leaves the building. He hurries across the parking lot and gets into his car. INT. CAR Todd turns the key in the ignition and looks in his rear view mirror. We see a ski-masked face staring at him. Todd half turns with surprise. The knife comes down upon him as he cries out. INT. ATTIC Indy sips the glass of wine. The door opens. She looks to the door. Stone enters, out of breath, carrying a bag of food. INDY That took long enough. STONE (approaches) He didn't have change for a fifty. (joins her) Most expensive hoagie I've ever had. So, do you like it so far? If you don't care for the open effect, I can have them install glass walls, so you can see if I'm sleeping and hold my calls. INDY So how did you enjoy your night as radio personality? I hope you didnt say anything that'll get us in trouble? STONE No, but some woman called in and complained that I was scaring her, and she wouldn't be able to sleep.

INDY How did you scare her? STONE I asked people to call in with their most terrifying experience. I couldn't keep up with all the calls. INDY You should probably stick to management. STONE No, I enjoyed it. I'm working again tonight. I've never realized how many people can't sleep out there. Dane calls my show Caged with the Stone man. Pretty catchy. I mean, it's not like I have anything better to do anyway. It's rather obvious you won't go out with me. Indy becomes silent. STONE I hear you have a date with Kelsy tomorrow night. INDY How do you know about that? I haven't told anyone. STONE Kelsy told me. I think he took some sort of pleasure in telling me. INDY That sounds unusual for him. STONE Guess he didn't like all the attention I was paying you. I can admit defeat. Jolene says you've wanted him to ask you out for months. I certainly wouldn't want to stand in the way of your happiness.

INDY That's very noble of you to say that. STONE Sadly, nobility doesn't keep you warm at night. INDY Be real, Stone. You could have any woman you want. STONE No, not any. I can have a hundred Jolene's without half trying. I don't care for trampy. I suppose if I didn't care, I wouldn't be lonely. INDY Everyone feels that way at some point in their lives. STONE Am I so bad that you'd never want to go out with me? INDY You're strange. I'll admit that, but you're certainly not a dating don't. STONE But you'd rather go out with Kelsy. INDY Kelsy's more for me. We have more in common. STONE Such as? INDY We're both working class. We're equals. STONE I don't believe it.

INDY Believe what? STONE You're a reverse snob. INDY What? STONE You think I'm better than you, or at least you think I think I'm better than you. If I were in Kelsy's position, you'd be thrilled by the attention I've given you. INDY I can't believe you've just called me a snob. STONE You're actually afraid of me, because I have wealth attached to my name. You can't admit you're attracted to me, because you're afraid you'll lose your power over me if you put your guard down. INDY That's completely outrageous! You're delusional! Indy springs to her feet. Stone stands as well. INDY I don't need to stay here and be insulted. Stone suddenly grabs her around the waist and pulls her against him. Before Indy has a chance to protest, Stone kisses her passionately on the mouth. He pulls away, looks into her eyes, and releases her. STONE Feel free to sue me for sexual harassment. It'll be well worth it.

The construction workers enter in a swarm of chatter and conversation. They appear surprised to see Stone and Indy. MAN Is this a bad time? STONE No, I was just leaving. Stone turns and leaves the attic. Indy watches him pass through the door. INT. BATHROOM -- DAY Darcy nervously digs through her purse while walking out of the bathroom stall. She fumbles with lipstick while approaching the sink. She looks up to the mirror. We see written across the mirror. I know you killed Harris. Darcy drops her lipstick and purse while backing up. She shakes her head frightened and then turns and runs from the bathroom. INT. RADIO STATION LOBBY Indy looks around the empty lobby. The phone stops ringing behind the desk. Indy walks past several flowers and looks to the back office. INDY Hello? Indy turns and collides with Kelsy. Both jump. KELSY Everyone's on edge today. What's gong on? INDY I guess Darcy's conspiracy theory has gotten to me. Where is everyone? KELSY I just passed Dane. He's on his way to join Mel in the booth for his shift. I haven't seen anyone else. Have you seen Darcy? She left halfway through lunch without much of a reason.

INDY No, I haven't seen anyone since one o'clock. Where do you suppose Jolene went? KELSY Maybe she went on break. I'm worried about Darcy. Maybe I'd better go look for her. INDY It's too quiet around here. I'll go with you. They approach the lobby door. We hear Darcy screaming. They approach the door with concern. Darcy flies around the corner and nearly bowls them over. She grabs onto Indy's arm. DARCY Someone's after me. KELSY Who? Where? DARCY In the bathroom--on the mirror! Kelsy runs from the lobby. Indy pulls Darcy behind her. INT. BATHROOM Kelsy storms into the bathroom and immediately checks all of the stalls. Indy and Darcy enter only a moment later. Darcy's purse is on the sink vanity. Kelsy stands in the middle of the bathroom and shrugs. KELSY There's no one here now. Darcy and Indy look to the clean mirror and her purse. DARCY There was a message on the mirror. A message about Harris. (looks to Indy) You believe me, don't you?

INDY (nods) Let's go back to your office, so you can relax. Indy turns Darcy toward the door. Kelsy grabs Darcy's purse and follows. INT. HALLWAY Indy guides the babbling Darcy down the hall. Mel comes out of the break room with her purse and stares. MEL Is everything okay? INDY Everything's fine. Kelsy follows them carrying Darcy's purse. DARCY Why would someone do this to me? INT. RADIO STATION LOBBY Indy, Darcy, and Kelsy enter the lobby. Jolene sees the condition of Darcy and stands from behind the desk. JOLENE What happened to Mrs. Chandler? KELSY She's okay. Just a bit shaken. Why weren't you at the desk? JOLENE I was. I was only outside for a quick cigarette. KELSY Hold all Darcy's phone calls the rest of the day. Jolene slowly nods.

INT. CHANDLER'S OFFICE Darcy drains an entire glass of brandy then looks to Indy and Kelsy. DARCY I know you think I'm crazy, but there as something written on that mirror. Someone wants to kill me. KELSY Who'd want to kill you? DARCY (sounding drunk) I don't know. Who'd want to kill Phil or Tanner and Whit? I'm telling you, I'm next. INDY We'll take you home. Take a few days to rest. You've been pushing yourself too hard. DARCY No--I haven't. Someone's playing games with me! KELSY Why don't you have another drink, then I'll drive you home. DARCY No--they're waiting for me there. (pours another drink) I'm not safe anywhere. KELSY Would you feel better if Indy stayed with you? DARCY (looks to Indy) You'd do that?

INDY If it'd make you feel better. DARCY Oh, yes. It would. INDY I'll need to drive your car. Mine's been totaled. I'll have to get a new one. DARCY (hands her keys) One more drink. Darcy finishes her drink and can barely stand. EXT. BACK LOT -- EVENING Kelsy helps Darcy across the parking lot while Indy carries her purse. They approach the car and unlock it. Kelsy helps Darcy buckle herself in. Indy looks into the back seat before getting inside. Kelsy gives alight wave as they pull away. Kelsy looks to the parking lot and stares at a small pool of dark liquid. He moves it with his foot. It appears to be blood. Kelsy appears puzzled. He nervously looks around the parking lot, and then turns and walks back to the building's back entrance. EXT. HARRISS BEACH HOUSE -- EVENING We see the peaceful beach house by the ocean. The sound of the crashing waves and seagulls is relaxing. INT. LOUNGE Darcy sits on the sofa with a drink in her hand and stares into the fire in the fireplace, being the only light in the room. Indy removes the photo of Harris from the grand piano and looks at it. DARCY (drunk) He was really fond of you, you know. INDY Mr. Chandler? I never would've guessed that.

DARCY (stands) Oh, yes. He would write his personal thoughts in a ledger he kept. (approaches bookcase) I would sometimes read it--to see what he was up too. (removes an old ledger) He didn't know I went through his desk when he wasn't home. (approaches with book) He was a real bastard. I'm glad he's dead. Indy accepts the ledger and flips through it. Darcy staggers to the bar and refills her drink. DARCY He hated me, you know. INDY I'm sure that's not true. DARCY Oh, it's true. Do you know why he married me? Indy shakes her head. DARCY I got pregnant. He wanted to do the right thing. I'm not saying he wasn't a good man once. Our daughter was still born. He blamed me for her death. INDY Oh, Darcy. I'm so sorry-DARCY You were the daughter he wanted. She would've been your age. I envy you, in a way. I had to try to win his love back but never could.

Indy flips through the ledger to the last couple of entries and reads them. DARCY I gave up a long time ago. He was always mean to me no matter what I did. I was practically a prisoner here. Do you know, I even thought about killing him? Indy quickly looks at Darcy behind the bar. DARCY I did. (removes a gun) I stole his gun from the dresser drawer and waited for him one night. Indy stares with concern. Darcy aims the gun at nothing. DARCY I was going to shoot him when he walked through the door. (lowers the gun) He didn't come home that night. Talk about fate. I was so drunk that I passed out. The next morning, I put the gun away and pretended it never happened. INDY I'm glad you didn't. You would've been the one going to jail. DARCY But it would've been over. I could have gotten away with it--made it look like a break-in. I actually planned it quite well. (replaces the gun) I'm not the dumb wife most people take me for. INDY I know that. You've proved yourself many times.

DARCY You've always been so nice to me, Indy. Probably the closest thing to a friend I've had. Would you like to see what I looked like thirty years ago and fifty pounds lighter? INDY Yes, I would. DARCY I'll be right back. Darcy staggers out from behind the bar and leaves the room. Indy approaches the bar and sets the journal down with her back to the rest of the room. She reads the last couple of entries. HARRIS I'm tired of the same bullshit every day. It's time a few changes were made. I won't be threatened by anyone. I'll settle this matter quickly and with as much force as necessary. Indy appears confused by the entry. Indy shuts the book and sinks into thought. We see her standing with her back to the room. She's slowly approached from behind. Indy taps her fingers on the book. She turns and almost collides with Darcy. Indy jumps with surprise. Darcy gasps then smiles. DARCY Guess we're both a little edgy. INDY I just had a very bad thought. DARCY About what? INDY About Phil and the missing investors. I think Harris may have known something.

DARCY Like what? He died of a heart attack-natural causes. INDY A heart attack doesn't necessarily mean it was a natural death. Someone may have helped it along. Darcy's expression drops, and she becomes pale. INDY (hurries to the phone) I need to call the station. Indy dials the number. Darcy approaches the bar and refills her glass with trembling hands. INDY (hangs up/turns to Darcy) The phone at the station's been disconnected. Darcy appears horrified. INDY Stay here. DARCY What are you going to do? INDY I have to go to the station--make sure everything's okay. Darcy leans on the bar. DARCY Indy, don't go--please. INDY I'll be back. Keep the doors locked. Indy runs from the house.

INT. MAIN LOBBY -- NIGHT Indy hurries across the dimly lit lobby toward the elevator. She presses the button and the door slides open immediately. Indy jumps into the elevator. INT. ELEVATOR Indy stands in the elevator. We hear the radio station broadcasting into the elevator. Dane's voice is clearly heard. DANE (V.O.) Rolan Stone is up next, broadcasting dead, so don't be changing the station. This is Great Dane signing off. Good night. The music begins to play. The elevator doors open and Indy hurries out. INT. RADIO STATION LOBBY Indy enters the dimly lit lobby. We still hear the station's music through the intercoms. Indy picks up the phone behind the desk and listens. She frowns and replaces the phone. She's suddenly grabbed from behind. Indy screams. Dane sets her down and laughs. Indy spins to face him and roughly smacks him on the shoulder. INDY Damn it! Don't do that! DANE You're way too tense. We really need to see if Stone can't loosen you up. What are you doing back? Kelsy said you were staying with our psychotic Darcy. INDY I tried calling, but I couldn't get through. The message said the phones were out of service. DANE Not so much out of service as out.

INDY Stop screwing around. DANE No, seriously. The phone company was here earlier and added the line to your office. Now the phones don't work at all. You really need to relax, Indy. Soon you'll end up like Darcy. INDY I'm not so sure she's loony. I read Harris's journal. He was going to confront someone about something serious. First Harris suddenly dies of a heart attack, Phil's murdered, and then Tanner and Whit disappear. DANE And this means--what? INDY Harris knew something. I think his heart attack may have been induced by something. DANE Yeah, sex with a hot girl half his age. That could do it. INDY I think someone gave him something that made it look like a heart attack. Someone wanted Harris out of the way. DANE And that would be Darcy Chandler. If anyone had reason to off the old man, it was her. He cheated on her, treated her like shit-INDY I don't think so. That wouldn't explain Phil or the investors.

DANE She could've killed them too. Phil could've known her little secret and Tanner and Whit--well, they just plain pissed her off. INDY Are you being serious? DANE This whole thing is ridiculous. Phil was killed by the guy from the back seat of your car. Probably some guy he owed money too--who knows. (pause) If it'll make you feel better, I'll go down to the lobby and see if their phones are working. Then I'll go with you to Darcy's. INDY You wouldn't mind? DANE Of course not. You're my best friend. I'd do anything for you. INDY Thanks, Dane. DANE I'll be right back. Dane heads for the door then stops and turns. DANE Oh, I almost forgot. I promised Stone some coffee. Would you mind going to the break room and getting him some? INDY Must I really? I don't think I want to face him again after this afternoon.

DANE I promised him. You can tell me about this afternoon on our ride to Darcy's. Dane leaves the room. INT. STAIRWELL Jolene enters the back stairway from the parking lot and hurries behind the stairway. She looks to a darkened cove behind the stairway and looks around. She straightens with frustration. JOLENE Damn it--don't you double cross me. Jolene hurries out from behind the stairs. She's about to go up them, when we hear movement from the main lobby. Jolene removes a can of mace from her pocket and walks along the back hallway. INT. MAIN LOBBY Jolene remains in the shadows of the dark hallway and looks to the main lobby and the area before the elevators. We see Darcy scurry across the lobby. Jolene remains hidden and flashes a smile. JOLENE You're so lucky. Jolene steps out of the shadows and into the dim lighting. The elevator remains unoccupied in the lobby. Darcy's no where to be seen. Jolene appears confused. She walks across the lobby and approaches the fire stairs. She opens the door and peeks into the stairwell. She straightens and allows the door to shut. The elevator doors close. Jolene whirls around to see the closed doors in the distance. She appears confused. JOLENE What are you up too? Jolene turns back toward the dark hallway and enters the shadows. She suddenly gasps. We hear the mace spray. Jolene staggers from the shadows clutching her eyes and gasping. She attempts to run for the front doors while holding her face. Someone moves toward her from the darkness.

EXT. RADIO STATION -- NIGHT We see Jolene through the glass doors struggling to open it. We see someone come up behind her. INT. MAIN LOBBY Jolene struggles with the door. She releases her eyes and spins around. We see the knife thrust downward. Jolene lets out a partial scream as the knife strikes her throat. Jolene hits the door, clutches her throat, and slides down the door. INT. BREAK ROOM Indy pours some coffee into a cup and listens to the radio broadcast. STONE (V.O.) If I could turn things more serious hereI'd like to play this next song for all you lonely people out there, who've been in love with someone who doesn't feel the same. The love song starts to play. Indy looks to the cup of coffee then walks out of the break room. INT. BROADCAST BOOTH We see Stone looking over a list of songs, crossing off several with a pen. Indy enters the booth with his coffee. Stone turns in the chair as she enters. STONE I wasn't expecting you back anymore tonight. INDY I needed to check on something. Dane asked me to bring you the coffee he'd promised. Stone stands and accepts the coffee. Indy fidgets uncomfortably. STONE I'd like to apologize for my behavior this afternoon.

INDY It's okay. You were upset. STONE I walked out of there like a spoiled child. We have conflicts that need to be resolved. INDY Why? Because you didn't get your way? STONE No. I'll make you a deal. If you can look me in the eyes and tell me you don't want anything to do with me, I'll leave you alone. I'll even become a silent partner, and you'll never have to see me again. INDY You don't have to do that. STONE (moves closer to her) You need to look me in the eyes and tell me you don't care for me and you never want to go out with me. It's that simple. INDY It's not that I don't care about you, it's-Stone gently touches her face and raises her chin, forcing her to look at him. STONE It's what? Indy looks away and attempts to move away from him. Stone stops her with an arm around her waist. He holds her against him and looks into her eyes. She holds him back with her hands to his chest. STONE It's what?

INDY It's-Stone's hand touches her face and gently slips behind her neck. His thumb strokes her jaw. Indy gently runs her hands along his chest and continues to stare into his eyes. A tiny smile crosses her face. INDY You get a lot of dates this way? Stone smiles warmly and lowers his mouth to hers. He kisses her gently on the lips. Indy returns the kiss without hesitation. He removes his hand from her neck and holds her against him. They kiss more passionately. The door to the broadcast booth is suddenly thrown open, and Dane appears in the doorway. Stone and Indy pull apart with surprise. DANE Dead air--none of that in the booth. Stone jumps to the controls and flicks several switches. DANE Can't leave you two alone for a minute. Stone doesn't look back nor respond. Indy hides her flustered cheeks and attempts to remain casual. INDY Did you find anything with the phones? DANE The whole building is out. I thought I'd walk you to the parking lot, and then you could drive to a pay phone and call the phone company. Stone sinks into the chair then looks at them. STONE I have my cell phone. It's out in my car. Dane flashes a smile. DANE Convenient enough. Why didn't you have it on you?

STONE The battery died earlier. It's recharging in the car. (removes his keys/to Indy) You know which car it is-DANE Yeah, the expensive one. Dane takes the keys and turns to Indy. DANE Let's go. INDY I'll be right behind you. Dane studies Indy, glances to Stone's back, smiles, and then leaves the booth. Indy approaches Stone where he sits. He looks up with a tiny smile. STONE If you come back later, we can finish that discussion. Indy leans down and kisses him quickly but passionately on the lips. Stone attempts to pull her into the chair with him. Indy pulls away with a warm smile. INDY Why don't you pick me up at Darcy's when you finish in the morning? STONE (warm smile) I can do that. She kisses him again then hurries from the broadcast booth. Stone watches her leave. He smiles and spins himself around in the chair. INT. ELEVATOR Dane and Indy ride in the elevator to the lobby. Dane turns to Indy and smiles.

DANE So, are we in love? INDY I don't get it. What happened? Suddenly I feel completely different about him. What changed? DANE It's called love. It wasn't so difficult, when you finally allowed it to happen. INDY He was right, you know. It's because he's wealthy. I didn't want to believe he could be sincere. I wanted to believe all men of wealth were corrupt like Harris, but it's not so, is it? DANE Can't judge all men by the actions of one. INDY I suddenly feel very good. The elevator doors open to a pitch black main lobby. Both remain still within the elevator. They look at each other with confusion. Dane looks back to the lobby and steps out of the elevator. Through the darkness, we see someone stab Dane. He cries out and hits the nearby wall. Indy cries out and steps to the open doors. A person in a mask makes a motion toward her. We see it's the same person from the back of her car. Indy cries out and hits the button. The knife slashes into the elevator. The elevator doors stop from closing as they strike the arm with the knife. Indy kicks the person through the opening, sending them back into the dark lobby. The doors close. We hear a bang against the outer door. The elevator goes to the second floor. Indy screams and slams her hand against the panel. She left Dane with a killer. INT. HALLWAY Indy hurries from the elevator and into the hallway. She runs along the hallway. We hear music over the intercom. The lights suddenly go out. Indy stops in the hallway and looks around. The emergency lights come on. The music and Stone are no longer heard.

Indy continues to run down the hallway. She hurries along the hall and stops before the booth. She opens the door and enters the booth. INT. BROADCAST BOOTH Indy looks around the empty booth. She closes the door behind her and locks it, then rushes over to the panel. She presses several buttons then nervously looks around. Nothing seems to be working. She holds back her tears. INDY Oh, Dane-She suddenly lifts her head with the appearance of an idea. She turns back for the booth door and slowly opens it. INT. HALLWAY Indy looks into the nearly dark hallway. Nothing appears to move. She enters the hallway and hurries toward the back of the building. INT. STAIRWELL Indy enters the back stairwell and runs up toward the attic. She runs past the attic office and to the roof door. She pushes on the door. It doesn't open and makes a strange sound. She looks down. We see there are chains and a lock over the door. Indy slams her palm against the door and looks around nervously. INT. ATTIC Indy enters the unfinished attic offices and cautiously moves across the room in the dark. She stumbles over discarded items. She pauses before a large toolbox and rummages through it. She removes a flashlight from the box and shines it into the box itself. She digs through the tools, casting several aside. She removes a crowbar. She takes the flashlight along with the crowbar and hurries back to the doorway. Indy shuts off the flashlight before entering the stairs. INT. RADIO STATION LOBBY Indy slowly enters the radio station lobby with her crowbar raised halfway. She places her back to the wall then turns on the flashlight. She shines the light around the room. We hear a clunk from Darcy's office. Indy jerks nervously and shuts off the light. She slowly walks across the lobby and pauses before the office door that's open a crack.

INT. CHANDLER'S OFFICE Indy kicks open the office door with the crowbar raised, prepared to strike. Darcy spins away from her desk. Items lie scattered everywhere. Darcy has a gun aimed and fires. Indy cries out and throws herself outside the office. Darcy lowers the gun. DARCY Oh, my God--Indy? Indy peeks around the doorway from the floor. DARCY Oh, Indy! Did I hit you? Indy slowly moves to her feet, still holding the crowbar. INDY No, were you trying to? DARCY No-no. You scared me. I wasn't expecting you to charge into the office like that. Indy slowly enters the office. INDY Me? What are you doing here? I had your car. How did you even get here? DARCY (shuts the door) I took the sports car in the garage. I had to come. I made a big mistake, Indy. INDY Coming here was your only mistake. We have to get out of here.

DARCY The journal--I thought Harris meant he was going to do away with me, but it dawned on me that he was talking about someone here at work. You were only gone a few minutes when I realized how stupid I had been. INDY What are you talking about? DARCY Someone poisoned Harris. They killed Phil. He was going to fire someone. That's what the journal meant. Phil had access to all of his books. He knew he was going to fire someone. INDY Surely someone wouldn't commit mass murder over that. DARCY You wouldn't think so, but I found the employees records, and I've learned something interesting. INDY What? DARCY Dane was arrested once for stealing. What if he was in on it with Todd? They could've been stealing together. Harris was going to fire one or both of them, which would ruin their plans. INDY Someone stabbed Dane in the main lobby. We have to get out of here. The killer's in the station. DARCY We could take the back stairs.

INDY We need to be very careful. I need to find Stone. He wasn't in the booth after the power went out. I think he may have gone looking for a fuse box. DARCY The basement--below the morgue. Indy appears concerned. INT. STAIRWELL Darcy and Indy appear at the bottom of the stairs before the back door. The door's chained shut. They look at one another with concern. DARCY What are we going to do? INDY Find Stone and get the hell out of here. DARCY How? The front door is probably chained too. INDY The construction workers left all sorts of tools upstairs. There may be a chain cutter or maybe a sledge hammer. We'll break the windows if we have too. DARCY Oh, my God. Am I stupid! Harris left his cell phone in the office. It's in the charger on the shelf. You find Stone. I'll meet you back here. Darcy turns and hurries up the steps. INDY Darcy--wait! We hear a sound coming from the basement. Indy hesitates then walks down the stairs.

INT. BASEMENT Indy enters the dark basement. She shines the flashlight around the dark area. The lights suddenly come on. Indy jumps with surprise and looks around. She's standing in the funeral home morgue. Indy turns once. Stone appears from a small cove. Both jump with surprise. STONE I thought you were leaving with Dane? INDY (lowers her crowbar) We're trapped. Dane was attacked. I-I don't know if he's alive. STONE What? By who? INDY We're supposed to meet Darcy by the back door. We need to break out. Indy and Stone approach the stairway. Indy looks down to the floor. We see some blood. Indy stops Stone and looks across the floor. The blood leads up to the freezers. Stone moves Indy behind him and approaches the freezers. Indy walks behind him. Stone reaches for a partially opened freezer door and pulls it open. A bunch of balloons fly out of the freezer and float just above it. Both Stone and Indy jump with surprise. Stone pauses before the second freezer and opens it. There's a cloud of cold air. Todd lies on the slab with frozen blood surrounding his throat. INDY Stone-STONE Let's get out of here. They hurry away from the freezers and toward the stairs. INT. STAIRWELL Indy and Stone stand by the back door. Stone removes the crowbar from Indy and smashes the glass portion of the door.

STONE You go get help. I'm going back upstairs for Darcy. INDY I'm not leaving you and Darcy. Stone picks Indy up and is about to lift her through the broken window, when she suddenly screams. INDY Stone! Behind you! Stone releases Indy and spins around. The masked killer is before him. STONE Shit! INDY Do something! STONE Like what? INDY You know karate! STONE Yeah, ten years ago! The masked killer swings the knife at Stone. Stone spins around and kicks the killer in the chest. The killer flies to the left but doesn't drop the knife. Indy and Stone run up the stairs. INT. RADIO STATION LOBBY Indy and Stone run into the lobby. We see lights on within Darcy's office. They run for the office. INT. CHANDLER'S OFFICE Indy and Stone enter Darcy's office. The office is empty. STONE I thought you said she was coming up here.

INDY She was supposed to. Indy hurries to the shelf. The cell phone charger is empty. INDY The cell phone's not here. She must've come here and left. STONE Where would she go? Indy shakes her head. She sinks into thought. Indy suddenly looks at Stone. INDY The broadcast booth! We can call for help over the airwaves. Indy pulls Stone from the office. INT. HALLWAY Indy and Stone hurry along the hallway toward the broadcast booth. We hear Darcy scream from the first level. Both stop. STONE Call for help in the booth. I'm going to help Darcy. Indy hands Stone the crowbar and runs into the booth. Stone runs down the hallway. INT. MAIN LOBBY Stone slowly enters the main lobby with the crowbar securely in his hands. He looks across the dimly lit lobby. We see the door to the funeral home is open. Stone looks to the floor. We see a small trail of blood leading up to the open funeral home door. INT. FUNERAL HOME Stone slowly enters the dimly lit funeral home. Darcy nearly runs him over. Both jump with surprise.

DARCY Stone-STONE We heard you scream. Darcy points across the room to an open casket. We see bloody hand prints on the side near the opening. Stone slowly walks toward the casket. Within the once white, satin lining, we see Jolene. Her yes are closed, and she's posed for a burial. The satin lining is covered with blood. STONE Oh, Jolene-We hear the cocking of a gun. Stone slowly turns. We see Darcy with the gun aimed at his head. Her look is cold and hard. STONE Darcy, what are you doing? INT. BROADCAST BOOTH Indy flicks several switches and leans toward the microphone. We hear the faint sound of a gunshot. Indy gasps and spins around. The masked killer is right behind her. Indy screams. He makes a motion to stab her. Indy pushes the chair directly into him. Indy screams and runs from the booth. INT. ATTIC Indy runs into the dimly lit attic and hides behind several sheets of drywall and two by fours. Indy holds her breath. We hear someone walk across the room. Indy glances to the tool box only a few feet from where she hides. The knife blade suddenly comes through the dry wall, nearly hitting her in the face. Indy cries out and pushes the panels forward then bolts out the side for the tool box. The panels fall with a loud clatter. Indy slides to the floor near the tool box and removes a large screwdriver. The killer throws the planks off of him and comes after her. Indy backs away from him while holding her screwdriver before her. Indy backs up. She's practically trapped now. INDY Who are you? Why do you want to kill us? The killer removes his mask to reveal Kelsy. He tosses the mask aside.

KELSY You took my promotion. You and Phil. INDY Kelsy? I can't believe it. All of this because you were passed over for a promotion? KELSY Harris promised me the promotion he gave to Phil, and then he took it back, because I was having an affair with Jolene. He didn't like the competition for her. I thought breaking up Phil's marriage would be satisfying enough, but it wasn't. (pause) Todd and I worked on a plan to take money from the company. Harris owed it to me. Harris was suspicious of me and Todd, so we had to get rid of him before he could fire us. It was our plan to make Darcy sell the company to her investors, but that backfired when they wanted out. They deserved to die too. When Stone caught Todd, I had no choice but to get rid of him. (angry) And that back stabbing bitch, Jolene, she nearly ruined the entire thing by trying to blackmail Darcy for Harris's death. It's her own fault I had to kill her. Indy appears horrified. KELSY She was so quick to toss me over for that Rolan Stone--just like you. (angry) I heard you were getting quite cozy with Stone. You're all alike. The man with the money gets the pussy. I'll actually enjoy killing you more than I enjoyed killing Jolene.

INDY You're sick! We suddenly hear Dane's voice over the radio. He sounds weak, yet somehow typical. DANE (V.O.) This is Great Dane reporting to you from WPUK--to all my listeners--send the police and paramedics to the station. This is not a joke. This is a real emergency. There's a killer running loose in the station and my friends are still out there. This is Great Dane, bleeding to death in the broadcast booth-Kelsy quickly looks to the radio with a scowl on his face. He looks back to Indy. She suddenly rams the screwdriver into his shoulder. Kelsy cries out and slashes at her, cutting her arm. Indy drops the screwdriver and clutches her arm. Kelsy raises the knife, about to plunge it into Indy. We hear a gunshot echo across the attic. Kelsy spins and falls to the floor. We see Stone standing only a few feet from the doorway holding Darcy's gun. Indy clutches her bleeding arm, stares at Stone, and then exhales. Stone lowers the gun and runs to her. He immediately fusses over her. STONE Are you alright? We have to get you to a hospital. INDY I'm fine--really. Thank you for your perfect timing. STONE It wasn't timing, it was typical. When have I left you out of my sight for more than fifteen minutes? What did you ever see in him anyway? INDY Honestly, I don't know. Darcy appears in the attic doorway, out of breath.

DARCY What happened? Kelsy? It was Kelsy? INDY I heard a gunshot before I ran into Kelsy. What happened? STONE Darcy thought I was the killer and tried to do me in. DARCY I was a little confused after finding Jolene like that. I just snapped. Though I enjoyed being tackled to the floor. Darcy winks at Stone. He rolls his eyes and shakes his head. INDY We have to check on Dane. I don't know how badly he's hurt. I'm surprised he's even alive. Indy runs toward the doorway. Stone and Darcy follow her. INT. BROADCAST BOOTH We see Dane sitting in the broadcast chair holding a kotex to his shoulder. He has the headset on and his feet propped on the console. We hear sirens through the open booth door. DANE And judging by the sirens outside of the station, I'd say my ride has arrived. For your cooperation in my hour of need, here's a ten hour, non-stop music marathon for your listening pleasure. And don't worry about me, I'll be back again tomorrow--that's what makes me great. This is Great Dane signing off. Good night. Dane flicks a switch as Indy enters the booth. Dane lowers his feet and spins in the chair. He nearly collides with Indy. Both jump with surprise. Dane attempts a smile.

DANE Tell me that gunshot was the killer getting his. Indy nods. INDY Are you okay? DANE No, not really. I'd like to go to the hospital now, if it's okay with you. Indy approaches him and pushes the chair from the booth. EXT. STONES BEACH HOUSE-- NIGHT We see Stone's beach house in the darkness. The waves gently crash to shore then roll back out. INT. SUN ROOM Indy and Stone sit on the wicker sofa in each other's arms. INDY Why were you so attracted to me anyway? STONE I was sitting here all alone, looking at that violent storm. I'd been thinking about my. I'd considered killing myself that night. Indy looks at Stone with surprise. He clings to her warmly. STONE I've never been the religious sort, but I looked into the dark clouds and asked for a sign. And there you were--fallen straight from heaven and onto my beach. You were sent to me.

INDY You may be right. Despite your odd lifestyle, our meeting may have been predetermined. I'm not even sure anymore why I was so quick to reject you. STONE (kisses her) Would you like to see the dungeon? INDY Now I remember why-STONE There aren't' torture devices down there, but I do have a first class private theater. (kisses her neck) Bar and hot tub too. Indy smiles warmly. INDY You are a strange man, Rolan Stone. STONE (kisses her neck) You need more strange men in your life--keep things exciting. INDY No--just one strange man will do. They kiss passionately. FADE OUT
