Project description Sand minerals are found in Central Java, largely along the Southern and Northern Beaches with deposit volumes of 16.9 ton million/year, and containing Fe ingredient ranging from 4.69% 46.21%. The sand deposit from the Southern Beaches have titanium ingredients ranging from 1.44% 2.46%. Purworejo Regency has unexploited potential resources for iron ores, as well as abundant maritime resources. In order to realize the potential of the iron ores, it is important to build a steel processing plant at small to large scale. The production capacity is planned to be up to 120,000 ton weekly or 6,240,000 ton yearly. The products will find there market in Jakarta, Central Java and East Java Province. Additional raw material needed for operating the factory can be procured from Yogyakarta, East Java or West Java Province.

Existing conditions Data from geology and geotechnic observations on iron sand location indicate that there is a concentration in southern part of Purworejo Regency, of about 180,000,000 m3 of iron sand deposit. That iron sand deposit, 163,000,000 ton contains iron ores with 60.12% - 78.85% Fe elements. Iron ores world consumption was US$ 52 billion in 2004. According to the Iron Ore Market, Aztec Resources Limited, it is said that the selling price for iron sand in 2004 was US$ 15-30/ton for Fe elements more than 65%. For domestic demand, the selling price was about US $ 20-32/ton for Fe elements 50 % - 65%.

Uraian proyek Provinsi Jawa Tengah sebaran pasir besi utamanya meliputi pantai selatan dan pantai utara, cadangan diperkirakan mencapai16,9 juta ton. Kandungan Fe bervariasi antara 4,69%-76,85% dan mineral titanium (Ti) antara 1,44%-2,46%. Kabupaten Purworejo terletak di pantai selatan Pulau Jawa yang mempunyai potensi pesisir bidang kelautan sangat besar. Potensi lain yang perlu dikembangkan adalah sektor pertambangan pasir besi. Untuk mendapatkan nilai tambah perlu dibangun pabrik pengolah bahan dasar baja dalam skala kecil sampai menengah. Kapasitas produksi penambangan dan pengolahan pasir besi direncanakan sebesar 120.000 ton bijih besi per minggu atau 6.240.00 ton bijih besi per tahun. Untuk memasok kebutuhan untuk pabrik di Jakarta, Jateng, Jatim. Pasokan tambahan raw material dapat diperoleh melalui bijih besi provinsi tetangga yaitu Jawa Timur, DIY dan Jawa Barat. Kondisi eksisting Berdasarkan data hasil penelitian geologi dan geoteknik terhadap lokasi cadangan pasir besi di pantai bagian selatan Kabupaten Purworejo. Terdapat 180.000.000 m3 cadangan pasir besi (iron sand). Di dalam cadangan pasir besi tersebut terkandung cadangan bijih besi (iron ore) sebesar 163.000.000 ton. Dengan kandungan Fe dalam bijih besinya berkisar 60,12-78,85%. Konsumsi bijih besi dunia diproyeksikan mencapai US$ 52 milyar di tahun 2004. Berdasarkan laporan Iron Ore Market, Aztec Resources Limited diperoleh variasi harga jual pasir besi sampai tahun 2004 berkisar antara US$ 15-30/ton untuk kualitas kandungan
