Dinosaur Roar by Paul Stickland Safety: List safety considerations and your plan regarding them. I will remind the children that we will use our walking feet in the classroom. Procedure: (step by step) Beginning: How will you introduce this activity? During large group activity I will introduce them to the activity they will be doing. I will say to them: Today you are going to read your own book! I have a book that has pictures in and you can read it all by your self. But you will be able to do something else that is fun to. You can act out what your read! I will tell them When I call your name you may get up and go to the group. Once their names are called I will say to them, fly like a pteranadon to the library area. Middle: List open-ended questions that the teacher could ask: When we get to the library area I will give the children the books and ask them: What is this, (pointing to the front of the book) They will say the front cover! Who knows where we start reading the book? We start from the left Can you show me your left hand. I will then ask them:

What does this word say, Dinosaur, the picture is right at the bottom of the word. What do you think this word is? What about this? What is the dinosaur doing in this picture? (roaring) So all together, it says? I will straggle my words so the children can come up with it on their own. Okay can we roar like a dinosaur? Okay lets open the next page. What does it say? It will have a picture of a dinosaur and it will have the word dinosaur. What is the next word What is the dinosaur doing? (fast) Can we move our hands fast? What is this next word? (Dinosaur) What is the dinosaur doing? (slow) We will read the whole book like this and act out each section of the book. In order to support English learning children in this activity I will translate in Spanish. For example: Que dice esta palabra? (Dinosaurio, dinosaur) Que piensas que es esta palabra? (rujido, roar) The children will act out the whole book, and the whole book will be translated in Spanish for the English learners. End: Plan for Clean-Up and Transition: When we are finished with the story I will say to them: All dinosaurs were different. Can you tell me what the dinosaurs were doing? What did they look like? I will ask the children to give me their books back. Then I will ask them: What is your favorite activity the dinosaurs do? Depending on the response of the children that is how I will dismiss them to the blue line in the carpet. For example, If a child says s/he likes when the dinosaur flies, then the child will be dismissed flying to the blue line.
