The AD is located 13 NW WSW of the city


centre of Istanbul on the N shore of the
Marmara Sea quite close to the Bosphorus.
Buildings and large structures border to the
N with OBST of 436ft. Otherwise the terrain
is rather flat with some spotheights up to
663ft in sector W-NNE.

The climate is of mediterranean type with


warm summers and relative mild winters.
Mean MAX/MNM temperature +28.4C/
+18.3C and +8.0 /+2.5C in JUL/JAN
respectively. Rapid changes in weather

The summer weather is generally good


but thunderstorms occur frequently during spring and autumn in the surrounding area but seldom over the AD.

Winter is the rainy season with low ST.


Snow is not uncommon and in the event
of heavy snowfall, snow clearance can
take considerable time. Caution adviced
during ice conditions.

Fog is of advective type (NE winds) and


may occur any time, mainly in spring and
autumn. Normally dissipating before
noon.

away toward west beyond the hotspot

CAT II/III OPERATIONS:


RWY 05, approved for CAT II / CAT III
operations and subject to serviceability of
the required facilities, is suitable for CAT II
and III operations by operators whose
minima have been formally approved by
relevant Civil Aviation Authority.

For CAT II and CAT III operations special


aircrew and aircraft certification required.

During CAT II and III operations, special


ATC procedures (ATC Low Visibility
Procedures) will be applied. Pilots will be
informed when these procedures are in
operation by ATIS or by RTF or NOTAM.

using this service will be guided until the
stopover line within the apron area

in force, reduced landing rate can be
implemented due to the requirement
for increased spacing between arriving
aircraft. In addition to the prevailing weather
conditions, such factors as equipment
serviceability may also have an effect on
landing rates. For information and planning

SURFACE MOVEMENT GUIDANCE AND


CONTROL SYSTEM:
Airport is equipped with MODE S capable
advanced surface movement guidance
and control system. pilots must ensure
that: aircraft transponder is set to transmit
MODE S signals, and associated MODE A
CODE, from the request for push-back or
taxi, whichever is earlier and after landing,
