How to Monitor and Respond to Student Misbehavior

INSTRUCTION (LESSON SCRIPT) Steps Anticipatory Set Key Questions, Comments, Directions, Assessments When students walk into the classroom, there is a question on the board: What do you know about blogging?

A.

Students will participate in the large-group brainstorm activity within this question by contributing to a ListGroup-Label activity. They will add to the bard their prior knowledge of blogging. The teacher will facilitate this activity and Some examples of responses: Its a public online journal People can comment You can talk about anything Its online blogs have specific topics You can express opinions In comments, others can agree or disagree Then, students will break into small groups and cluster the words into subcategories. After, the class will return to whole group and students suggest a title or label for each word and their reasoning why. The teacher facilitates the conversations and shows the labels on the board. Today, we are going to learn about blogging, and we are also going to set up our own blogs to use in our Public Policy Integrated Project 1. Go into the definition of a blog -Discuss that a blog is sometimes known as a noun and a verb, depending on the context. -Noun A website on which an individual or group of users record opinions, information, etc. on a regular basis -Verb To add new material or to regularly update a blog. You will often hear it as blogging Question for students: Why would there be two different parts of speech? How can it be categorized into both? Possible Answers: There is an actual blog, like the thing, and then theres the action of writing on a blog (blogging). -Its also interesting to think that a blog is something you do, not always something you see. You are not only reacting to it, but you are participating in it. (Web 2.0) 2. Class discussion: Why would we use a blog? Whats their use in a classroom? (Put the answers on the board and discuss them as a class. Think of this more of a roundtable discussion instead of a classroom lecture, so students can respond to each others responses and contribute heavily.) Possible Answers: A way to discuss A way to comment
