Prof. Dr. S. M. Balaji is the author of "The Textbook on Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery," published by Elsevier which is currently the country's best seller and the prescribed book to be used by undergraduate and post graduate students alike. He is presently the Editor-in-Chief of the pubmed indexed Annals of Maxillofacial Surgery and the Executive Editor of Indian Journal of Dental Research published by Wolters Kluwer Lippincott Williams & Wilkins. To his accomplishment, he has several International and National publications in various journals of repute. To his credit he has received numerous awards including the highest form of honour through the Dr. B.C. Roy National award from the Medical Council of India. He has also delivered various orations including the prestigious Ginwala Oration of the Indian Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and the highly esteemed Dr R Ahmed Oration of the Indian Dental Association. He has bagged the coveted Dr. Ginwallah Rolling Trophy of the Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons of India twice and has been the runner up twice by winning the Best Paper Award at the Annual conferences. He is a renowned Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon who is known for his prowess in the correction of complex craniofacial disorders using novel tissue engineering. He has devised several new surgical techniques for the correction of recalcitrant diseases.
