Air Plant Care Tillandsia

Light: Bright indirect light. No direct sun. Water: Mist the leaves daily or soak only the leaves of the plant 2 to 3 times weekly. Leaves may curl if dehydrated. Allow to dry completely between watering. Air conditioning and heating may dry out air and plants may need to be watered more often. Thoroughly wet your Tillandsia 2-3 times per week; more often in a hot, dry environment; less often in a cool, humid one. Plants should be given enough light and air circulation to dry in no longer than 4 hours after watering. Spray misting is insufficient as the sole means of watering but may be beneficial between regular watering in dry climates to increase the humidity. If the plant is in a shell, be sure to empty the water out. Tillandsias will not survive in standing water. Ventilation: Needs a well-ventilated area. They love fresh moving air. Fertilization: Once a month. Do not over-fertilize. to tsp/gal once a month will keep plants healthy. Temperature: Around 70 is ideal Mounting: Air plants are epiphytic, which means they need no soil and usually grow on trees or rocks. You can mount on a piece of wood or bark with a string or wire, the roots will eventually attach to the mounting and you can remove the string or wire. Make sure whatever you mount them on holds no water. Do not use treated wood. Hanging rings or stands are also ideal for displaying air plants. Common Mistakes: Not watering enough. Not enough light. Need to be near a window but no direct sun. No soil. Putting them in soil or moss keeps them too wet and causes them to rot. Too much fertilizer.
