Class Blog Our class blog will be used as a safe space for you to share ideas with one another about what we read and discussion in class and anything else you find which is helpful, relevant or interesting and related to literature. Posting on the blog is not mandatory, but it is encouraged and will be factored into your final participation grade (this is a great extra credit opportunity for those of you who may not feel comfortable participating in class discussions). Revealing your identity on your post is optional. If you are uncomfortable putting your name on your post, be sure to send me an e-mail telling me that you posted and what was included in the post so you can receive credit. Deadlines: Late work will not be accepted unless you have an excused absence, in which case, you have 7 days to complete your assignment from the date of your return. You are responsible for requesting any work you missed during your absence. Academic Integrity: Plagiarism is the use of someone elses words or ideas, or your own previously completed assignments, without giving proper credit or notification. Plagiarism is a serious breach of academic integrity and any assignment containing plagiarism earns a zero. Extra Credit Opportunities For extra participation points, you may post on the class blog. For one quiz grade of 100% you may attend the Kitchen Table Youth Summit on July 13th from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at ART 180 in their new space at 114 West Marshall St. Richmond, VA 23220 and write a reflective response for OR create a mind map of your experience. No admission fee, but donations are encouraged. (P.S. Free pizza!) * If you cannot attend the Youth Summit due to monetary, transportation, or prior engagement issues, you may see me for an equally weighed, alternative assignment. Attendance & Tardy Requirements The attendance policy is in accordance with summer instructional requirements as prescribed by the Virginia Department of Education. It is not meant to be punitive. Because Summer Session operates on a compressed time frame, students may not be absent (excused or unexcused absence) more than 3 days. Tardies and early dismissals are factored in as a half days absence. See the examples below: Two tardies or two early dismissals will be counted as one absence, regardless of the amount of time involved. An early release before the first break = 1 absence. Arriving tardy after the first break = 1 absence. 3 absences + 1 tardy = withdrawal. 1 absence + 4 tardies and early dismissal = withdrawal. Students who are absent in excess of three days will be withdrawn. There can be NO EXCEPTIONS.
