PUBLIC COMMENT OPPORTUNITY FY 2013 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance (JAG) Local Solicitation Program Application

Applicant: Amount of Grant: Public Review Period: City of Bridgeport $180,470.00 July 2, 2013 to July 9, 2013

Project Description: The City of Bridgeport is seeking $180,470 in FY 2013 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance (JAG) Local Solicitation Program grant funds to continue the ongoing work of providing a Modular Shoot House and Line of Fire Shooting Range that will be located in an indoor facility constructed by the City of Bridgeport. The 12 stations of Line of Fire and the Modular Shoot House will emphasize Officer Safety and Wellness. The imminent closure of the Monroe Shooting Range will have a negative impact on the Bridgeport Police Department and the ability for all officers to maintain the P.O.S.T mandated standards in firearms applications. In order to complete the required training efficiently and effectively, the Bridgeport Police Department needs to provide its officers with a facility that will be easily accessible, safe and equipped with the necessary apparatus to provide exceptional training exercises. Without these training exercises and the sufficient time needed to complete these exercises, the City of Bridgeport Police Department is putting both officers and residents at risk. In addition, funding will also be used to purchase Law Enforcement equipment for the Bridgeport Police Department.
