Artifact 2: Advanced Literature Final Exam Goal: 2 Standards: 1, 3 This artifact reflects how I have put ideas I have

learned throughout the MATC program into place. Before beginning the MATC program, my colleagues and I used a final exam that was provided in a curriculum plan. The final exam consisted of a multiple choice reading test and timed essay. Throughout the MATC program, I learned about the diversity of learners and ways for students to demonstrate their knowledge gained from a class. Because of that knowledge gained, I was able to work with a colleague to develop a new final exam for the Advanced Literature class we both teach. Throughout all of the reading focused courses I took, I learned about the diversity of my students and how they learn. I found that not only are they different in how they learn, but they are different in how they can articulate what they have learned. For that reason, I knew that the final exam we currently had in place was not a great way to accurately see what my students were learning and that we needed to make a change. The new final exam we have put together consists of three parts that allows students to be creative with how they demonstrate what they learn. Students show their knowledge of the topic they chose to research through three different components. Two of these components scaffold student learning to get to a final component which is a proposal for making change presentation. I included this artifact because it demonstrates how I have put knowledge I have obtained from the MATC courses into place. I found in my classes that the current assessment we had in place may not have been the best and used what I learned to create something that works better. I also shared the knowledge I gained with a colleague so that we could both improve our classes for the better.
