VISIT TO THE FORMER MIDLAND BANK No1 POULTRY: FRIDAY 26th JULY 2013, 3.

45pm
Built in two phases from 1924-39, this masterwork by Sir Edwin Lutyens, (executive architects Gotch and Saunders), was HQ of the Midland Bank, sold when its successor HKSB moved to Canary Wharf. A 2008 scheme for a hotel foundered with the financial recession, but is being revived. The Master has arranged with David Jennings, Director of EPR Architects for a visit by a small party which is limited to 20, due to restricted lift service. Many of you will recall the Masters reference to this building in his Milo Lecture, held at the RIBA, which raised considerable interest during question time. This is a unique opportunity which has presented itself, and, due to the numbers being restricted to a total of 20, in the first instance, no more than one guest will be accepted per member, although this may be reviewed if there are any places remaining. Unfortunately, this is a small window of opportunity with very short notice. The tour will end at about 5.00 pm, following which the Master invites members and their guests to join him at Ruskin Wine Bar in Eastcheap, (1868 by R. L. Roumieu in the style of the Arts & Crafts movement), for light refreshments (not included in the ticket price). The ticket price will be 20.00 p.p.
