PRESENTATION ON

GLOBALIZATION AND EDUCATION

EDUCATION AND DEVELOPMENT COURSE CODE: PC 119 20 September, 2012

Asif Bayezid
15th Batch Institute of Education and Research University of Dhaka.

NOW... IN 2012... INTRODUCED IN

USA, <<< COKE IS A GLOBAL BRAND 1886

LETS SEE HOW...

WHAT DO YOU THINK OF THESE 2 ADVERTS OF COKE?

AND DO YOU REMEMBER THE COKE AD OF THIS GUY?

WELL, TO MANAGE THEIR MARKETS IN ALL PARTS OF THE WORLD... COKE HAD TO FOLLOW THE CULTURE OF THAT PART... AND THAT IS EXACTLY WHY WE CALL COKE..

A GLOBAL BRAND

TO CATCH THE MARKET OF BANGLADESH, COKE HAD TO..

- LEARN OUR SOCIETY, CULTURE AND TREND.. - HIRE BANGLADESHI EMPLOYEES
AT THE SAME TIME, WE, THE BANGLADESHIS...

- LEARNED TO ADOPT AN ELEMENT OF THE AMERICAN CULTURE..

- LEARNED TO UPGRADE OUR QUALIFICATIONS TO WORK IN AN AMERICAN COMPANY...

So, to sum up...

Multinational companies are dominating the world market, and they want able employees to fuel their business. To catch the current trend of the global job market.. Our candidates are being bound to acquire the qualification/ skills/ abilities which are accepted globally..

Technological literacy could be one of the most vital qualifications among them...

And moreover... After apprenticeship, every human is bound to find a way for financial sufficiency... And there are 2 ways to do so: 1. To serve the Dominating Organizations And 2. Entrepreneurship But whichever way does the candidate take, s/he has to have those common skill to survive in a world where there are no boundaries...

Primary Concept:
GLOBALIZATION ONE WORLD

WILL ACT LIKE A SINGLE SOCIETY

Globalization means:
Common process of International Integration
World view Human activity product

interchange

culture

The

word "globalization" has been used by economists since 1981.

The

concepts did not permeate popular consciousness until the later half of the 1990s. The earliest concepts and predictions of globalization were penned by an American entrepreneur-turned-minister Charles Tazz Russell who first coined the term 'corporate giants' in 1897.

Connection between development and globalization Positive result EXPECTATIONS

Which fulfills

of

Invention of wheel

Invention of gunpowder

Discovery of the new lands

Invention of printing machines

BETTERMENT OR SOMETHING ELSE?

EUROPEAN SOCIETY 1500 AD NATIVE AMERICAN SOCIETY 1500 AD

* Fast social life * Advanced in science and technology * WANT TO DOMINATE

* NO European fastness in social life

* Dont even know what gunpowder is!

* DO NOT WANT TO DOMINATE!

CONSEQUENCES FROM A VERY EARLY TIME...

Christopher Columbus's discovery of the New World

native Americans are NOT civilized (in the European scale)...lets give them CIVILIZATION..!

The very same goes with...

The case of Indian Sub and the British East India Company...

EDUCATION
- Makes people able to deal with real life problems and get adopted in the society.

In order to stay IN the SOCIETY, a child has to acquire a minimum standard of...

SKILLS

&

ABILITIES

So...what system did WE go through...??

Early Ages

GURUKUL

High Middle Ages

Colonial Aligarh Muslim University (Victoria Gate)

Now, we have in our hands:

- Globalization makes the world faster and unified - Education makes able and skilled humans So...

Does such UNIFIED kind of Earth need HUMANS with some COMMON ABILITIES AND SKILLS? Do we need to develop a common system?

If we develop a GLOBAL EDUCATION SYSTEM...

Can we call the products of the system...

GLOBAL CITIZENS?

Well...
The International Programs Advisory Committee (IPAC) of the Upper Iowa University Programs have given us a set of criteria of The Global Citizens Let us have a look on them...

1. Excellent written and oral communication skills.

2. The ability to work effectively in teams.

3. A mastery of common business technology tools.

4. The ability to analyze and solve complex problems.

5. The sensitivity and skill necessary to succeed in a culturally diverse GLOBAL ENVIRONMENT.

7. Solid leadership skills.

A simple verification if we have truly developed or not...

Case 2
GRE: Graduate Record Examination

Created and administered by Educational Testing Service (ETS) in 1949

ETS has taken 20 long Years to take the decision to change the system in 2011 after a through research at national level...

The Graduate Record Examination is capable of verifying the candidate's: 1. Verbal Abilities
2. Mathematical Abilities 3. Analytical Abilities Judging by the GRE score, a huge number of Universities and Organizations round the world accept and recruit candidates from all over the planet. Relying

on the GRE score, institutions can recruit candidates in every discipline.

Which is a clear indication that, the evaluation system of GRE is verified and standardized in such a way that can show a clear picture of all the cognitive domains of the candidate.

Statistics show, that Bangladesh lacks a huge number of DOCTORS in the remote suburban and rural areas. (There is only ONE doctor for per 500 people, Prothom Alo) So, initiatives should be taken to produce some qualified doctors...
But, how was the IDEA, to enroll students in MEDICAL SCHOOLS, measuring by the obtained grades in examinations like HSC which merely have gone through:

1. Reliability tests 2. Standardization phases

???

What Perspective have we thought into...? How many years of research have we gone through...?

To change our education system to GRADING SYSTEM?

National educational degrees are being acquired through Wiki spaces blog...in abroad..

Are we actually capable of competition in the global race with a fixed scale by the Western policy-makers?

These are very small proofs that ...

The target of the UNIFIED Global Education is not being achieved in our country...

Rather we are only adopting the WESTERNIZED CULTURAL ELEMENTS ONLY...

ARENT WE...???

We are truly eager to use GLOBALIZATION to serve its own Educational Objectives and build up a generation who can be called GLOBAL CITIZENS .

But.. Things arent actually being blown out..

If our target was to build up citizens who will represent the country in front of the world..we surely have achieved it. Our candidates are bringing prizes from International competitions like IMO and HSBC YEC...

May be slow..but we are growing..

PEACE...
