Paging load calculation Here are the parameters those are related with the paging. 1. CCH-CONF =0.

This means we are using main BCCH with one CCCH channel. So we will be having nine blocks for both PCH and AGCH (36 TDMA frames). 2. Bs_AG_Blk_Res =2. This means we have statically allocated two blocks for AGCH channel. The remaining seven blocks will be allocated dynamically to both PCH and AGCH. So if the paging message is overloaded, then the number of blocks for AGCH will be limited. 3. We are using IMSI paging and paging request type 1. So we can page two IMSI in one paging message at maximum. 4. MSC will do the re-paging once. That is when there is no response for first paging within 3 sec the MSC will re-page again. So normally it is expected that 20% of the paging message will be re-paged. CCCH multi-frame has 51 TDMA frames. Duration of this multi-frame is 235ms. So within this 235ms we will be having seven PCH blocks at maximum. Which means the BSC can page 14 IMSI per 235ms. So for one hour we can page a maximum of 214,468 IMSI. Since we have enable re-paging, the actual capacity becomes 214,468/1.2=178,723. So we can page 178,723 IMSI in one hour as maximum. Since the paging is not uniform throughout the day, normally its better if we didnt exceed 30% of this limit to accommodate all those paging message even in off-peak time.

According to the above table it is clear, the number of paging messages exceed the maximum limit. So there is going to be paging congestion. Since paging congestion is there, all the seven blocks are going to be assigned for PCH. So there will be only two blocks for AGCH. Therefore it leads to AGCH congestion. As a final we will get SDCCH Assignment failure.

We can define SDCCH assignment failure as SDCCH Assignment failure (C11645) = Number of Immediate Assignment send by BSC- Number of Establish Indication received by BSC.

C11645 = C11684+ C11685+ C11686-C11636-C11637-C11638

From above table it is clear, in peak hours, there is huge different in between the number of Immediate assignment sent and the number of Establishment received. AGCH congestion is the cause of this problem. So if we break this LAC area into two, the PCH channel will not overloaded. So we can have more blocks for AGCH.
