The Coffee Corner Paper

Positive, Informative, Fun & Free! ~Since 1996 ~
A lady went to Buy a new car. She browses around, then spots the perfect car and walks over to inspect it. As she bends to feel the fine leather upholstery, a loud fart escapes her. Very embarrassed, she looks around nervously to see if anyone has noticed her little accident and hopes a sales person doesn't pop up right now. As she turns back, there standing next to her, is a salesman. "Good day, Madame. How may we help you today?" Very uncomfortably she asks, "Sir, what is the price of this lovely vehicle?" He answers, "Madame, if you farted just touching it, you are going to crap your pants when you hear the price." What kind of shoes are made from bananas skins? Slippers. What kind of rooms have no walls? Mushrooms. When is a door not a door? When it's ajar. What happened to the boy who drank 8 cokes? He burped 7-Up. Why do golfers wear two pairs of pants? In case they get a hole in one.

About the CHF/USANA Partnership:

In 1991, Dave Phillips founded Childrens Hunger Fund, a non-profit, Christian organization dedicated to providing food and relief to suffering children throughout the world. It was during a trip to Honduras that Dave saw first-hand young cancer patients fighting for survival at an understaffed and unkempt facility. He knew then that his life could be better served by assisting children. Since its inception, Childrens Hunger Fund has distributed more than $800 million in aid to children in more than 70 countries. Just like USANA Founder Dr. Myron Wentz, Dave hopes for a world free from pain and suffering. USANA and Childrens Hunger Fund joined forces in 2000 to provide thousands of malnourished children with daily nutritional supplements and financial resources. Dr. Wentz also worked with Childrens Hunger Fund to personally fund the construction of two state-of the-art medical centers in Uganda and Cambodia. USANA has donated more than 44 million Usanimals, a childrens nutritional supplement, to help malnourished kids in 15 different countries achieve a better future. USANA Associates worldwide have helped CHF distribute 292,398 Food Paks and other aid through more than $15 million in product donations and monetary support. CHF is a remarkable company that has mastered the art of bettering the lives of millions of people around the world, USANA CEO Dave Wentz, said. We are proud to be associated with such a dedicated organization that has a mission which aligns so much with our own.

The Coffee Corner ~ Gardening Tips

6 SECRETS TO GROWING ANNUALS, PERENNIALS AND BULBS
Ensure your flowers grow properly this year by learning these simple secrets to annuals, perennials and bulbs. 1. Discover a Salt Flowers Crave
Epsom salt is magnesium sulfate which, as a supplement to your plants' regular feedings, will deepen the colour of blooms and help fight disease. Every three or four weeks, scratch 1 teaspoon Epsom salt into the soil around an annual or perennial's stem and water well. Alternatively, dissolve 1 tablespoon Epsom salt in 1 gallon water. Every two weeks or so, pour some of the solution into a spray bottle and spritz the leaves of your flowers.

2. Learn a Seed-Starting Secret

You've just sown flower seeds in a planting bed and are pleased with the spacing and soil coverage. But did you know that one extra step will warm the soil and speed germination, keep the earth moist, and thwart birds foraging for seeds? It will and all it takes is spreading a layer of clear plastic wrap over the seeded area. Anchor the plastic with rocks and remove it as soon as the seeds sprout.

3. Prop Up Tall Perennials

Peonies, delphiniums, and gladiolus are among the tall perennials that generally need support. A wooden stake is the usual answer, but a less obtrusive option is an old lampshade frame. Place the metal frame, narrow side down, amid seedlings when they're about 6 inches tall, working the frame into the soil to a depth of about half an inch. As the seedlings grow, tie them loosely to the top of the frame with twist ties. The leaves will obscure the frame as the blooms above stand tall.

4. Splints for Bent Stems

If any of your flower stems are bent, pick one of these common items to use as a splint: For thin stems, a toothpick or cotton swab; for thicker stems, a drinking straw, pencil, ballpoint pen, or ice cream stick. Affix splints to stems with transparent tape, but not too tightly.

5. Bromeliads like Fruit

To encourage a potted bromeliad's rosette of leaves to sprout its pretty flower, place the plant in a plastic dry cleaning bag with a ripening banana or three or four ripe apples. The ethylene wafting from the fruit will stimulate flower production.

6. Tie Your Stakes

Panty hose "ropes" have long been used to tie snapdragons, hollyhocks, tomatoes, and other tall flowers and viney vegetables to stakes (they're soft and pliable), but panty hose is hardly the only household item that will serve the purpose. Try these ties: Gift-wrapping ribbon left over from birthday parties Broken cassette tapes Plastic interlocking trash bag ties Dental floss (tape size) Velcro strips
